Safari Clips.

I have been using a Mango Safari fountain pen with a 1.5 mm nib and mango cartridges as underliner for more than one year. Usually the pen lives between the pages of books and when I transport it is inside a leather case for two pens with internal separations. Now the yellow clip is showing some paint deterioration and you can see the aluminium under the paint in  some spots. It is normal to colour clips to have their paint peeled?

I carried a charcoal Safari as my main pen for a couple of years. I wasn't particularly gentle with it (pocket carry next to my cell phone so it wouldn't turn in my pocket). The coating on the clip shows some wear, but not all the way through to the metal. I also own a counterfeit Safari and the coating wore off the "point" of the clip through to the metal much more quickly.

 

That's not to say that your pen isn't genuine. The color of the coating could matter to it's durability. Additionally, paper can act as a mild abrasive so that might have contributed.

Thank for your comments. The pen is not a fake as I bought it from  a store that is well known i, but I agree maybe the paper can act as an abrasive.

paper is abrasive, depends on the paper but you can polish things with paper.

You can sharpen a knife on cardboard

That's probably the reason they changed to hard chrome plating on most editions.

Some colors tend to age better and it also depends upon the quality of the base metal and any imperfections in the coating process.

Paper, too, plays a part as it is abrasive and acidic as does general wear n tear.

 

E.g. the silver coating on one of the Logo models is abysmal and prone to flaking/chipping, thereby revealing the black plastic underneath.
