So, I have written with the pens inked on my desk and now I'd like your feedback. What pens / nibs do you think make my penmanship look the best?

Photos will follow in a minute.  You can vote for as many as you like and please tell me in your post which you like the best.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Great idea! My favorites are probably the Parker BB Italic, Sailor Stubbed Music, the Bexley Bock Factory (Yellow), the Eversharp Stub, and the Pineider Bellezza. The reason is your somewhat spacious but angular cursive. I like that these nibs feel like they give a little more weight to the letters, round the edges, and seem to encourage your retraced strokes to meet up or merge a little better, making the letters less noisy. However, I don't know if I could pick a favorite out of the bunch. I was quite surprised how some of the broader and juicier stubs wrote so differently for you than they did with me, especially the large music nibs, where your lines are much more thin and it almost seems as though you were writing with only part of the nib!

Very interesting exercise. I think this is why I enjoy looking at my 'currently inked' notebook so much!

I definitely felt like the broader nibs worked better for you - and particularly those with the slightly softer edges, but the best of all IMO were the older ones with a bit of flexibility. I think a vintage Pelikan OM/OB or Waterman stub could be a really interesting direction to try.

  • 1 month later...

Amberlea, your handwriting looks best in gushy rich nibs

the Bexley's ,

Parker Centennial Duofold BB Italic,

Pelikan M800 - PF Medium

Now, I know this says M600 in the text, but it is not is the Ocean Green M800 in the green ink.

Vintage Conway Stewart Flex with the green ink

the Sailor music nib stubbed  with the Kwizi Violet

Osprey Pen - Double Broad Architect Grind, I think your cursive looks fine with that nib.

Waterman 100 Year Pen, your cursive handwriting looks gorgeous with that pen, I might be biased because of the ink color.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Thank you all for taking the time to look at this and give me your feedback.  I am getting another big nib for my fantasy pen and I have new nib coming for the M1000.  Also, the Green is an M800 as you pointed out, not an M600. The M600 is really pretty but not green.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
