This is the new "La Fenice" gold nib that Leonardo is making in-house. It is an extremely wet writer, but, with a very dry ink and when "broken in," it writes a reasonably crisp line. The ink I currently have in this pen is Montegrappa Chocolate Brown.

Happy writing!

Wow David that's a beauty!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Another attractive pen with a special nib:

Salvatore Matrone has been offering some limited custom ground steel nibs on the Leonardopens web site. These include architect, fude and CSI grinds. The latter is a smooth cursive italic. This nib nib is sweet. It is indeed very smooth, yet quite crisp enough for passible calligraphy.

Several FPN members, including myself, have wished that pen makers would offer stubs and italic gold nibs that are narrower than the 1.3 mm (Visconti) or 1.4 mm (Leonardo) ones that we most often see. I have discussed this with Salvatore, and he seems inclined to work on offering some narrower stubs and CSI nibs. As some one who favors 0.8 to 0.9 mm cursive italic nibs for my everyday italic handwriting, this would be most welcome.

Happy writing!

David

If you research the right area on Franklin-Christoph’s website, it shows the width of the nibs ground by Yukio Nagahara. All are smaller than a 1.1mm as far as memory serves.  Trouble is they don’t sell those nibs individually, though you can buy the SIG units.

I’ve settled into liking no wider than 1.1mm, but I do like my Visconti 1.3mm nibs too. I’ve always wondered why there aren’t more 1.3mm nibs.

One of my Christmas gifts has a lovely 1.1mm stub nib. I really love this pen.  The ink is also a Christmas present.

This....would make my day AND compel me to buy other pens. I primarily do not buy any other pens after my Opus-88 Demo because I have to either mod them or send them off to be modded...and I just can't be arsed anymore. I'll stick with my "One Pen" until someone opens up the road for me...and those like me.

Not an unusual nib: Jowo 1.1, but it is an especially nice writer.

The pen is from On A Whim Woodworks. It is a beautiful pen: The Scream acrylic and very well made.

@amberleadavisWow, I've never seen a 800 size pen in a green demonstrator. Very, very nice!

Edited to note that I found info on the  model at "The Pelikan's Perch" evidently it was a special edition limited to 3,000 pieces.  One is on eBay right now for $1,800!  When my ship comes in...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
