Once a thread reaches too many pages, it slows down the servers so we create a second thread.  This thread is a continuation of @dcpritch's thread that shows us a collection of wonderful stubs!

Excellent!

Here's yet another ancient Swan Safety Screw Cap with its cap repaired with sticking plaster.  I don't care it's the nib I love!

Omg I was convincing myself I didn't want to deal with vintage.

What is the price range for stubby swans?

They vary enormously - just like all old pens.  My silver Leverless from 1937 is probably worth about £300-350, but "Elastoplast" bought a week ago, cost me £24 - I was lucky: as I said, it's the nib isn't it, much as I love silver.  I deeply regret losing the 1919 Swan Split Lever pen I had - that had a nice stub too...  Mabie Todd New York Swans from 1900 - 1925 or so seem quite often to be fitted with stubs, more so in my experience than the English Swans.  They can often be bought at reasonable prices.  Chatelaines, like the one pictured here have become quite pricey lately.  I sold this one for £100 about four years ago.

Thanks for the info. Wow those are pretty lines!

The price range is probably too much for me and my wallet. I  might still keep an eye out for any good deals worth a try, or get myself to a pen show (I live near none).

I found this pen some weeks ago in a local office supply store, for less than 4 USD.

No name, no markings... but it's a pleasant writer, if a bit dry.

Here's a small writing sample.

@Cob

I have a reply for you but I didn't get it scanned before I left.  Your pens are amazing.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
