Hongdian 100 14K Ebonite Piston Filler

J120

Recommended Posts

Browsing and I came upon this behemoth of a pen. This was apparently released domestically last year around Nov or Dec. No idea if it will eventually make its way stateside through the usual channels but interesting things happening out East.

The most important thing I found is an appearance by that elusive piston opening tool. You can see it in two pronged action if you look up the pen on Bilibili.

Ebonite nib unit. 14K nib

No idea the cost but the comment section mentioned markups as high as $235 or 1500 yuan.

The home market retail price of this particular model at release is around ( officially ) 2300 RMB , but usually actually retail around the 2K mark

Haha! I just received delivery of two units of the piston disassembly tool in the post today, packed alongside a HongDian N1 (c/c-filled) pen I ordered. One of them was promised but owed me from an earlier order; and the other I asked for especially, as part of the amends I expected the seller to make to screwing up twice and messing me around. My key interest in the item is actually (or primarily) to see whether it works for a specific other brand of fountain pen, for which I've had to create a makeshift piston disassembly tool two (or is it three?) years ago.

As for the HongDian model 100 pen, … uh, pass.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Where did you get the tool?

From the official HongDian store on AliExpress, because I had it in writing that one of my previous orders for a piston-filler model included a disassembly tool (but then it somehow got ‘missed’ in the packing process… twice!). I've been hounding them for it ever since.

I just tested it on a HongDian N7; and, honestly, my homemade tool — which I used on my N1-S pens while waiting for the official tool to arrive — works just as well. On the other fountain pen brand, too; the HongDian tool works, but no more ‘perfectly’ than what I amateurishly fashioned.

Kinda anti-climatic, actually.

I would be interested in a steel nib option but the pen is extra gaudy.

Well well well , guess what this pen now had a small batch of offshoot now minus all the gold plating and enameled finish , retaining all the Intricacies and now in all brushed steel with a steel nib ( same as the N7 I think )

Able to grab one before the slim stock run dry , looking forward to having this beast

All steel is easier on my eye, but I think it would have been neat to keep the enameled red star on that wavy edged clip. Just one spot of color!

Is It everything you hoped for? Weight? Nib swappable?

Tell me about the loneliness of good @Mech-for-i. Is it equal to the loneliness of evil? ( He-Man reference)

If only it came with a 1.9 stub, I'd really enjoy it.  Though I generally prefer gaudy, I like the silver better.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

FPR doesn't yet make a flexy stub but I really want one.

Finally available in F and EF.

Only after AliExpress's sales campaign (and site-wide coupons) expired yesterday, I take it?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
