Luoshi Retractable Capped Variant

Recommended Posts

So there are at least 6 different companies at last count making various colorways and variants of the same pen. The differences are minor.

These sub $4 variants come from Luoshi and feature a similar capping solution as seen on the Lanbitou version.

Do I understand this correctly: the nibs are retractable, but you still need to put the plastic cap on when the nib is retracted (as apparently shown on the top photo), presumably to keep the nib from drying out? Or are the nibs still out when the plastic cap is on? The photo is a little ambiguous to my eyes.

Yes, this design is flawed due to no sealing mechanism being present. The solutions that are offered on these models is a dipping water container or the plastic caps. The reviews on Taobao say the cap works but I will judge the Lanbitou version when they arrive next week.

I really think the whole capping need defeat the purpose of having the click mechanism , to be serious , using the de facto hooded nib / tubular nib already made fashioning a proper seal mechanism easier due to the slim and small size .. IMHO it's simply a waste of time for this one

I agree that it should be easier to seal due to the hooded nib. First generation issues maybe but at least they are trying to address it at this price point.  Moonman nailed it with the A1 at $25-35 so maybe $15 is the sweet spot for a budget retractable that seals. Lanbitou tried and failed with the 3088 in that price range.

I am still looking forward to testing the models because it is not a large investment and I appreciate Eastern manufacturers trying something new.

I agree and will compare them. It looks like one OEM is producing them and the finish and a cap or maintenance water option are the only difference.

The Lanbitou versions are in customs so hopefully a review next week.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
