I ordered a an 11/32 x36 Tap for a Pelikan M800 nib unit from Silverpenparts last week, but they may be out of stock and may not carry this any longer.  Can anyone here recommend any other sources for this tap?  Thank you.

That thread is proprietary to Pelikan so you will have to get a tap made and it isn't cheap. Tapco will make them if you want to explore that option.

Your other option is to get ahold of one of the International Association of Penturners (IAP) members by the forum name of jick wu. You'll have to join to be able to start a conversation/message with him. He is Chinese and has had made and sold triple start taps and dies along with Bock and Jowo nib taps. He might be interested in making some Pelikan taps to sell. They will cost a lot less than having the tap made domestically.

Thanks Pete.  TAPCO had made them for Silverpenparts in the past, but that size is not listed in their current catalog.  I’m waiting on a reply from them to see if they have any gathering dust, otherwise I will look further into your other suggestion, and any others suggested here.

I might have a 11/32 36tpi tap that I can sell. It's E-Taps made IIRC, pls contact me via the email ID in my signature so that I can send you a pic of it. I am located in India.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

Thank you, hari317 and MHBru  for your suggestions. I’m still waiting on Tapco’s response, and will proceed from there.

I am more used to metric, and for M800, 11/32 x 36 tpi means M8.75 x .75, very close to M9 x .75 (drilling at 8.1) which is very easy to find, and much cheaper. I think @fountainbel wrote something about it here.

I believe Dr. Laurence Oldfield makes custom taps. You might try him too.

Thanks again for the additional suggestions.  Is Dr. Oldfield a member here?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
