Hello, fellow pen lovers!😊✒️ Oona here…

Hello,hello All!

My name is Oona, and I continue to live in my hometown of Berkeley,California, USA.

I have had a love of fountain pens since I selected my first( that was gifted to me by my mother) at about age sixteen ( I am now close to forty one years old, and still have, and cherish, and use that pen! A lovely Waterman Laureate ).
I also love dip pens, mostly ones I carve myself! …from feather writing quills, to bamboo, to sticks…I have also begun my dip pen ink ‘ making journey’ at home, beginning with beet ink, and interested to graduating to the more involved acorn and walnut inks, of which there are instructions in a book I recommend if any of you are interested in ink making and/ or pen carving. The book is: The Organic Artist. The author is Nick Neddo.

As much as I love fountain pens, I still have a lot to learn, as well as wanting to connect with other pen lovers( hence I am a new member of this amazing website/ community now!),  at least virtually, and, perhaps, if you are near Berkeley, in person as well.  My email is: edelen2u@gmail.com.  Please reach out if you would like to.

Sincerely, and cheers to pens, and to writing and drawing with them!
Ms. Oona A. Edelen

P.S. I write daily, with both my current collection of eleven fountain pens, and my carved dip pens ( as well as my store bought 100% glass dip pens). I write poetry, keep several journals, and have written a short story/ account from a life experience of mine. Any pen lovers here in the Berkeley area that are a part of a writing group(s). If so, please let me know, in addition to whether you are accepting new members.

Thank you for the warm welcomes 🙂

I look forward to, to quote OCArt, "this friendly corner of the fountain pen universe", and getting better acquainted.

Cheers,

Oona

Hello from slightly east of you, also in California. I used to carve quills when I was a kid, but not very well haha. I'm not a member of any writing groups right now, but I am also a writer! I hope you find the connections you are looking for here 🙂

Welcome to the community. My first fountain pen (I bought it) was a Waterman Laureat.  Mine is blue. I think @LizEFhas one too.

I like how your name starts with vowels.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
