I have no idea what kind of pens these are, but I really like the way they write and the little penguin on the peach one.

The turquoise pen in the photo is a Sailor Profit Jr.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Judging by the hooded nibs on the yellow and pink ones, they're chinese.

Pens with nibs like yours show up all the time in aliexpress. I just searched on ebay and none came up, but they're a dime a dozen, so if you like them, you can very easily amass a vast collection.

I forgot to mention that this one I have the packaging for, so it’s the peach and yellow ones that I need information on. However, the only non Japanese wording on the packaging is Sailor and Kurogane, and when I googled it, the pen that shows up is leagues better.

This was helpful, and I found more on Ali Express as Alex suggested (thank you, Alex from NJ). While I didn’t find these exact ones (was hoping the penguin graphic one had other colors), I did find other cute penguin school pens and fancier financial nibbed pens. The Chinese pen market is so vast and there’s so much to learn.

Don't confuse these:

There’s no confusion between a pen with a steel nib I paid $10 for and that lovely 110 anniversary pen. That lovely Sailor collab with a penguin that Number 99 found has been added to my must haves.

If you managed to get a new, genuine Sailor Profit Jr. (by any other name) for $10, that's a steal! Well done.

It was at an art supply store in a bargain bin. The store is slightly magical, I think. The first time I went in I found a set of Parker 51s for $8, one with a gold nib and 10k gf cap, old Platignum cartridges that fit this old pen that I was never able to ink for 99 cents, and a new bottle of Pelikan Edelstein ink for $10.

What does ‘financial’ mean in this context? By observation on AliExpress, it seems to mean a hooded nib, possibly EF? I see the term used often and it caught my interest because I do like EFs excessively.

Yep, hooded and nominally 0.38mm round-tipped. I don't know with certainty why they are called ‘financial’ nibs, any more then why the very fine Japanese nibs with a downward bend at the tip are ‘posting’ nibs.

When kpong11 confirmed Financial = Accountant, I thought it must be something like that. And certainly a hooded nib almost guarantees the appropriate stiffness. The posting nib I’ve never used, but I’ve used a variety of vintage and Japanese ‘Account’ nibs, since I favor a firm EF in many contexts. Which is why most Chinese nibs are perfect for me. Thanks.

With due respect to @kpong11, I wouldn't call an opinion confirmation. That's why I wrote, ”I don't know with certainty”, because I cannot find any authoritative information source stating how those nibs came to be named thus, or even cite a long history of it being industry convention (in China and/or elsewhere).

Not really. I have many Chinese pens with ‘financial’ nibs here, and not all of those nibs are in physical contact with the hood to rely on it for physical support (against any attempt to elastically or inelastically deform it, eg. to flex it). The shape of the piece of metal that forms the nib has more to do with its stiffness than whether it protrudes from a hood on the gripping section.

Rare is the Chinese EF nib that writes finer than an F nib produced by one of the Japanese ‘Big Three’ brands in the fountain pen industry. The (often non-authoritatively called “#5”) 26mm EF nibs from HongDian, Majohn/Moonman, and Delike tend to write quite fine, partly on account of being tuned to write quite dryly; but I can't say the same for most (supposedly “#6”) 32mm–35mm EF nibs from China writing as finely.

It seems that it was supposed to be used for posting accounting books.

However, the naming is a long time ago.

The linked article is in Japanese.

Hello.

The author of this article is based on the book of the Pilot's production manager 90 years ago (written in a difficult old style).

Therefore, I think it is full of reliable information.

I was worried about whether an accurate translation would be possible because the author wrote it in "Old Grandpa's Tone".

It's a fun style for me as a Japanese, but it may be an esoteric and unexpected language for "Google-san".

Regarding the fact that the pen tip is pointing down, this is my personal opinion, but I think it is the result of pursuing a shape that does not open the pen tip so as to keep the line width constant.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
