What is good these days in affordable Rollerballs?

I have been looking for a Sharpie blue 0.7mm Rollerball without success unless I'm willing to pay ~$9 S/H.

What are the better rollerball options that are NOT needle point, available in blue, modestly priced (~$5) and, available in the normal retail chain or with cheap shipping?  Anti-washing ink is a bonus.

I assume Rollerballs aren't popular due to drying out and requiring a cap but, I could be wrong.  Gels seem to dominate, in fact I purchased a dual pack Black and Blue 0.7mm for $3 at a local Dollar General store!  G2's were slightly less.

TIA,

Staples sells them by the dozen for $26 or $27. If you pick them up at the store, there's no shipping charge, even though those cretins will end up shipping that single box via ups or fedex to the store and eat that cost (no wonder they're closing stores left and right).

I have a lovely P75 Cisele ballpoint and wanted a broad refill for it. Ordered a Monteverde P44 Broad Gel and was blown away by the smooth writing, almost made me give up on the fountain pen!  Just another option if you have a ballpoint that takes a Parker refill.

When it comes to a liquid ink rollerball, I find that Pilot makes an excellent one in their Precise V7 and Precise V7 RT. The RT version is really nice, because it is retractable. However, it also must be noted that the ink formula seems slightly different between the capped and retractable versions, perhaps to prevent the RT versions from drying out or leaking.

The Precise line of pens always comes with a needle tip. If this doesn’t suit you, their less-popular VBall might.

Pilot Blue ink is quite pretty and deep looking without being garishly bright.

Can’t comment on shipping, since I have Amazon Prime 😐

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
