She has been really wanting this pen and since she has been sick recently, I thought this would lift her spirits.

I bought myself a (plain) Vac 700R recently - it's a very impressive pen.  The Iris has that extra "something", I trust it makes her day!

I hope your wife feels better soon!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I rather like mine, although it's hard to get all the water out after flushing it...   What's the nib on your wife's, clipse94?

I just visited to share how I finally got around to cleaning and lubricating my original Vac700 Clear and saw this.

My wife also has a clear Vac700 in her collection, but I must ensure she never sees this else she'll want a new Vac700R Iris and husband.

Current: ensso PIUMA (brass), TWSBI VAC 700, Monteverde Invincia Stealth, Sensa Meridian Crystal Silver, Parker 95
Previous: Pelican Epoch, Libelle Vortex Grey Swirl, Shaeffer Triumph Imperial Palladium, Parker 25
Ink: TWSBI Black, Parker Quink Black, Royal Blue Washable (with SOLV-X)

Hey everyone!
I've been using a Twsbi 580 diamond and LOOOVEEEEE it so much that I decided to get a Vac 700, AND the iris edition of it.
Any ideas/experiences whether the colors of Vac 700 iris come off or tarnish in time? That's the only thing that makes me hesitate...

Thanks a million!

Sorry, GokChe -- I haven't used my Vac 700 Iris enough yet to know how the finish holds up.  I did, however, had some of the color on the section of my pink 580-AL leach off while I was flushing the pen out, soaking it nib down in IIRC ammonia solution.

I did have a lot of problems with the 700 Vac trying to get all the moisture out of it when I first when to flush it out (which is part of the reason I haven't used the pen all that much since I bought it).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
