Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: 3 Oysters I.COLOR.U Hangangmul

This is review #170 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was quick and easy. Alone, the color just looks dark blue or blue-black. Next to some of my other blue-blacks, it appears to lean slightly green, and the diluted color going down the sink supports that. The screen capture really doesn't seem to show any color, though if you zoom in, it's not too far off. The absorbent paper isn't too far off. The color in the scan seems too saturated (lacking black). The zoom is OK, but still a little off... Seems this is a hard color to capture...

The line width measurement is one of the lines used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 300µm, with ten divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 300µm. (For the curious, with 172 inks measured, the average line width is 291.9476744.)

The slide / smear wasn't very interesting, so I didn't include it. It shows a bit of granulation, and the color looks completely different from the writing.

Errata: "but chect the" should obviously be "but check the"...

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Great job Liz as usual

I like blue blacks their very calming.  Though I have enough.

I finally got the bejewelled line. It's the paper fibres, hello. I'm feeling more and more like Quin today... :D

I'm not sure it's possible to have enough. ;)

I think I'm safe from this one too! Which is good given how hard they are to get here :)

Poor, unloved ink! :(  :) But yes, very good that you don't want an ink that hard (or worse, impossible) to get - that's just the FP-user's version of torture.

Perhaps I'll try some of it in my relatively new Kaweco Sport - it's a fairly dry and fine writer (so dry time will be no worry) and they're almost the same color. :)

Slightly less than eternity?  Even though I like the color, I'll sit this one out.

Makhabesh has a good approach to problems.

Thanks for another great review!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:D It does seem he's learned not to let what he knows get in the way of what he doesn't know.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
