if I recall, Antarctica is actually a desert.  It doesn't really snow.  It's just the little bit of snow never melts.

True.  But that's still too much snow for me....

Forty different inks and brands? No.  That's called diversification.

Forty different inks and brands? That's called a good start!

Certainly... What is a dragon without a hoard? Or two or... Hm well, ink is at least one of mine.

So, how is it going? Did you acquire polar inks?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

No polar inks (too many vintage pens has scared me off buying them), but I keep acquiring penguins!

I want to put a gallery album up of them, but I don’t know how yet. When I figure it out, I will post a link here.

I've heard of the concept of supplies adquired beyond life expectancy (SABLE).

With my current usage I have enough for 5 years or so, so I need to use it up or stop buying.

You need to buy more ink. You're going to make it more than 5 years.

If you have a bunch of inks you never use... but you're holding down a job, you pay your bills, your family life is good and you aren't in danger of being suffocated under a Cult Pens Diamine ink 3-for-2 sale bottle avalanche... Maybe it's wasteful, but it ain't hoarding

I like having the right tool for the job on hand. Sometimes that's actual tools, or it could be herbs and spices for cooking... Or it could be inks.

There's no better feeling than needing just the right thing and finding it in your stash. I'll continue to make some wasteful decisions on all fronts, with great satisfaction.

Noooooooooo!  Diamine inks are already so cheap over there.  I didn’t see this. I didn’t see this.

Thankfully, I took a hit for the team….it does not APPEAR that Cult Pens is having a sale on Diamine. If they are, they are hiding it from me….

I dunno. To me, using an EF nib never had the inescapable logical equivalence with laying down less ink (by volume) per unit area covered by ink marks. If I can put umpteen parallel lines inside a 5mm×5mm square area on the page, that's a lot of area — more than 50% of the 25mm² — covered in ink, and if it's a reasonably wet-writing nib, probably more densely deposited ink than if a 1.9mm Stub/Italic nib was used to spread ink in a single continuous stripe. It just takes longer to make so many pen strokes and ‘colour in’ the page, to form whatever larger symbols or overall visual effect.

I’m a proud ink hoarder.  I recently moved and even the commercial mover was shocked at how many boxes and plastic 3-drawer “cabinets”’were filled with inks.  They had never heard of a fountain pen, and asked why would I need so much ink?

My answer was elegantly sublime.

Because I love it all.

it fell upon deaf ears.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

You and AmberleaDavis are the people my husband once said (after showing him photos of the ink hauls the two of you had posted a few years ago): "This is NOT a competition!"

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
