This is very nice of you @amberleadavis but then you are very nice. I hope the winners enjoy the loot. I owe Amber a return of a CRV. My letters are languishing, waiting for me to put down the iPhone and write.

Thank you!

@amberleadavisI am still having fun with all the things you sent! It's funny, I think "British Racing Green" reminds me more of the color of RAF sweaters than of sportscarslarge.IMG_1315.JPG.479d9217d22c86594d1b84f609680c61.JPG.

Welp, here's my first submission!
The three inks that I chose are shown in the first photo...followed by capped and uncapped pics of the pens, then the CRVs follow those.
I'll send the originals back in the mail on tomorrow. :)
I'm not certain if that meets the parameters of the contest, but if I'm missing something please let me know.
I wanted to send back a few CRVs but I don't have any interesting paper to send them on...sadly. :(

Thank you for this opportunity to have some fun writing back for this contest. I'm going to find some awesome paper and get my act together and submit a proper CRV for another penfellow to reply to.

:) 🆒

I wasn't until after I posted that I realized it was a St. Patrick's Day Green - the Diplomat had just run out of ink!

@Detman101Do you want me to send you a CRV?  I shouldn't send them all back to @amberleadavis, should I?

I'm not certain how this works...though I've read the instructions twice.
I believe I was supposed to create a CRV of my own in addition to responding to the two volumes included in my letter.
However, I reeeeeeeally hate writing with my "1905 Mabie Todd & Co Swan" pen as it hurts my hand to utilize something that small.
That leaves my "Penbbs-487 with Blue Dew flex" and "Opus-88 with K.Speer flex" as my only two functional pens for the CRV. I have the Jinhao 450 that I won in the other giveaway but I haven't inked it up yet and the 18k nib isn't really anything different than the standard nib types.

TLDR:
Either way, I mailed the entirety of my replies back to Ms Amber this morning.
Once I figure out the next steps I'll work on a CRV of my own for submission and mailing.

I was asked about feedback.  Try to give feedback in the following format:

1. Something you liked.

2. Something specific that could be improved.

3. Something else that was good.

So, an example might be.

I liked how the ink flowed in the custom nib.

I think the nib was too sharp.

I liked the experience of using a different nib, particularly a fine nib ground to a CI.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You're welcome!  I'm still playing with all the wonderful goodies you sent.  Thank you again. :)

Does this note mean I get to keep and wash the paper?  It's been on my list of things to try!

@amberleadavis WOOHOO!!!
I received the "Esterbrook - Estie" and the 3 reconstituted poweder-inks on Monday.
I'm chomping at the bit to try them all out, but I won't have time this week due to prior commitments in the evenings.
I will post an update CRV set with the new items next Monday or Tuesday hopefully.

FYI: What ink was in that Estie? I flushed it about 8 times and the ink just kept coming...even after removing the Converter...lol.
I finally gave up and let it sit over two nights in water and changing the water each night. Now it flushes clear...hehe.
Whatever ink that was...it's almost eternal! :o

I didn't think I sent you an Estie, but I could be mistaken. Send me a picture.  OH, and was the ink black?

Well, I think that is much better than other paper, but the hole is a bummer. Did you lay it flat?  And just to confirm it was the TR paper not the Rhodia paper?

Yes, you said it was the old TR paper, I believe.  I have it drying to give it a second try.  What paper was the notebook you posted in a separate thread made of?  The one with the Constitution? Was that TR, also?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
