Are there any fountain-pen or ink manufacturers in Ukraine?

One of the interesting things about this hobby is finding out about the different fountain pens and inks from around the world.  Sometimes, these manufacturers are no longer in business because of the switch in habits of modern people.  Are there any vintage or current Ukrainian manufacturers of fountain pens or inks, big or small?  Thanks!  🇺🇦

I don't know, but I was wondering about the same thing.  I have one Benu, and I feel as I shouldn't be using it right now, even though I've had the nib ground so it's not wholly Russian anymore.

That's funny because I thought the same thing while shaving with Voskhot blades this morning.

Of course, it's nonsense to stop using something you've owned for a long time just because it's Russian. But I won't be buying any new ones (nor will I be buying a Benu fountain pen, although I've wanted one for a while).

You will be forgiven that you cannot, but never more that you do not want to.

For years I thought the Benu was pretty, but for now I wish I could find a Ukrainian pen or ink maker to support.  When this is all over I'm going to find someone in the Ukraine that I can support in pen making.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You might try DMing Andrew_L.  He lives in Kyiv and buys and sells pens and probably knows if there are any Ukrainian inks or pen makers.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

It is pretty, but I was unhappy with how it wrote and am not so thrilled with how it sits in the hand.  It became my pen to experiment with getting a nib ground.  And let us know if you find a Ukrainian pen or ink maker to support!

Maybe we can do our research now for pen and ink manufacturers and possibly organize a group buy later.

That would be good.  I suspect @Andrew_Lis unfortunately otherwise engaged at the moment, but he's produced some inspiring and wonderful artwork during the invasion.

I did hear back from @Andrew_L who appreciates our support. Right now of course, no one is doing business. He did say that a company LUX made ink, but I was unable to find any.

I crossed Benu off my wish list too.

Truthfully, I crossed them off my wish list even before this all happened.  I found the designs to be too garish for my tastes, and felt that it was a case of "here, you're a girl so you want girly things, right?"  No, I'm a woman and I was always a tomboy growing up and I don't like things shoved at me based on some arbitrary decision that just because I have boobs I would OBVIOUSLY want X (I have the same problem with the stupee videos that FB thinks I should see, and I've given up trying to block them and just ignore them outright because I've apparently broken their algorithm AND their computer code in the process... score me ).

It's not just Benu that does it, of course -- Pilot and MB, I'm looking at YOUR companies as well....  But MB I also dislike because of their general snooty marketing strategy, and the prices to match.  And Pilot?  Well after PilotUSA's handwaving about how they only sold half the colors of Decimos [again, the "girly" ones] in the US "because it's a marketing decision" when the colors *I* found attractive were the Light Grey and the Dark Blue?  Well, I bypassed PilotUSA AND their markup and got my Grey Decimo from a Japanese vendor on eBay and saved myself money in the process -- and got exactly what I wanted and the seller kept the 100% positive feedback rating, so win-win all around (except of course for PilotUSA, who just LOST -- shrug...).

I remember reading something in the past about glass houses and stones.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Breaking news: Benu plans to relocate to Armenia says their American distributor.

Wow, that is not a small step! I'm guessing they are originally Armenian, but it's still quite an upheaval either way.

Please let me know if I should remove anything. Sometimes the line between politics and non isn't so clear.

Maybe we should consider buying Benu pens after their move, too, if that's something that fits your personal esthetic!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
