I have a Sheaffer Imperial IV in daily use that likely dates to within a year of my birth - currently in daily use!

I have a  Conway Stewart 84 made in my birth year plus a Parker Senior Duofold from my dad's birth year (1927), a Sheaffer's Balance from around my mother's birth year (1931).  I suspect one or two of my Wirts are from around the birth years of my grandparents (1899-1901).  The Conway is a gorgeous but is a bit small for my hand and the Wirts have too many little quirks to be regular users but the Parker is in the rotation fairly regularly as is the Balance.

I have a Parker 51 that's dated '55 making it a year younger than myself and the Fender Stratocaster.

I have a Parker 51 from 1946. Same as me. It's a nice writer with black barrel and gold cap and in excellent condition. Every once in a while I am tempted to have my initials engraved on the cap, but not yet. I have a few other pens - Montblanc, Pelikan, and Eversharp - that are from the 30s.

I have a Hero 100 from 2002(I think I'm relatively young here)

I bought it as an adult and it's been working great until now:)

I don’t have them yet, but the three I would like from circa 1976 are the Parker 180, Sheaffer Targa (had one as a school pen, older sister stole and then lost it), and the Pilot Myu.

Top 5 of 23 currently inked pens:

Namiki Origami Tradition maki-e Penguin F, Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku

Sailor X Sakazaki Penguin Pro Gear Slim MF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Lamy 2000 EF, Diamine Purple Bow

Platinum Hibiscus SF short-long, Platinum Green

Indigo Bronze TWSBI Eco 1.1 Stub, De Atramentis Columbia Blue-Copper

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I've got a black-and-gold Aurora from 1952 that's a lot better looking than I am, but at least it makes me look a little classier when I carry it.

What about the Shaeffer 'Targa' for those of you born 1976 - 1993? (Hope I got the dates right.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
