@mizgeorge Wow! Great colors from that gray ink. That blue is intense. Very nice! I can't wait to see the rest.

Keep trying @Audrey T. What kind of paper are you using?

I was just joking about my general tendency to splash ink everywhere, regardless. I haven't tried this technique yet. But in any case the joke was meant to be in service to the compliment -- you have a lovely, light hand.

I also enjoy loose sketching with ink and water. The samples below were drawn with home-made wood or metal ruling pens.

Thanks for the introduction to Nick Stewart's work. That has inspired me to try some new directions: wetter washes, use of bleach, and development of chromatography colours.

Meanwhile..... here are some old sketches with my previous simple monochrome tonal sketching techniques . . .

Very nice work.  Thanks for posting!  I particularly like the one of the potting shed, because it looks as if you're starting to get a hang of the tonalities in the washes.

Thanks to @axialix for opening this thread and to all the other contributors.

I like these type of ink washes/drawings a lot! It's something to be considered for ink testing.

One life!

Hi again everybody. I’d like to add a few new inks and also revisit some old ones. This time I’ll be using only hot pressed watercolor paper. In theory, the sheen should be more visible and hopefully the colors more vibrant. You be the judge. I’m trying to branch out from trees so come along for a mountain high.

First a few new inks:

Diamine Imperial Purple: a lovely shade of purp with gold sheen

large.diamine_imperial_purple_hp.jpg.9aa5979f13a7ccc4d47a3fd7af228c3d.jpg

Diamine Earl Grey: a complex and beautiful ink (no sheen, but still nice)

Cheap Cartridges (who knew these had any sheen at all?)
Manuscript Black:

Manuscript Blue:

Manuscript Green:

And to revisit some previous inks:

Colorverse Hubble Zoom:

Colorverse Saturn V:

Some bleach weirdness:

That’s all for now, but there’s more ink samples on the way. Until then, I hope you'll keep feeling them:

Like @mizgeorge, I Love what you've done with the manuscript blue especially.

If you like sheen you might have some fun with Koh - I- Noor ,document blue/lbacks.

I was going to say that I am now very curious what that very pleasant blue looks like in the 'normal-use' writing situation. I cannot find a thing with a Google image search.

There was some talk about them in this thread, but it was awhile ago and I haven't read the whole thing: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/314342-cheap-ink-cartridges/

That's definitely my kind of price. How's the flow on this ink?

Here's a shot of the Manuscript blue written with a Nikko G nib. Looks pretty close to the color I see:

Here's some more shots showing the sheen which is a nice reddish/goldish color:

Thank you very much and I'm sorry I am hijacking your thread ... but not sorry enough to resist continuing to hijack it. 😁

Your pictures are great, as before, and I am now even more intrigued by the ink. I did find a description, here, that is makes it seem like it would really fit my tastes. I also found this one picture, which is from an Indonesian Shopee store:

(While searching around for this ink, I also found some images of Manuscript Sepia, which I think might be an unidentified ink I've been trying to figure out that came in a second hand fountain pen I purchased. I think it is a very nice color.)

I've tried the black one . The flow is wet. Note the ink is waterproof so you need to adapt your technique. :)

If you check in the ink reviews you can find one. In order to see the photos you have to copy paste the entire link.

Great - thank you @yazeh! Now I really want that ink... (A link to a review of Manuscript Sepia is there, too, and I really like that color as well.)

Oooooh!

Love the sheen in combination with the edge crispness/shading (what some people here have dubbed "haloing").

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
