Do you remember the craze for Danitrio raw ebonite?

Do you remember the craze for Danitrio raw ebonite pens? I'm dating myself, but that musta have been something like 12 - 15 years ago.

Do you still have your raw ebonites, and do you still love them? My answers is "yes and yes", though I must admit that they do not get that much time with the ink. Being eyedropper filled, the Densho and Mikado hold so much ink that it takes a long time to get through an ink load.

Oh yes, I do!

I am the lucky owner of two of these beauties, both with an external nib (Pelikan and Platinum). I love the Japanese ED filling "system" and the ebonite. I used to write in café and bars )not so easy these days), so the ink capacity is really an advantage for me.

Although beautiful, I don't really like the feeling of urushi laquer, so the raw ebonite is a real joy. I did own two urushi Denshos and sold them both (one of them back to its original owner if my memory serves me well).

For some reason, the Densho is the perfect pen for me, the ergonomy fits my hand perfectly, the size is just  what I need. My grail pen.

I really wish that Danitrio would have kept these pens into production, but I understand the buisness and profit matter.

I don't know the artist but the silver work indicates it is a Yin Yang and the mosaic is abalone, even though it doesn't show up in the crummy photo.

Raw ebonite Danis were a way to promote the sales of their pens. Kevin was the promoter of this pens that were offer in limited quantities.  I still have the pens that I bought from Kevin and they bring back a lot of memories.

I agree. I miss Kevin's involvement on FPN.

I had one of the Fellowship pens that I stupidly sold.

I too have the best memories of Kevin. He sold me my first Dani, black urushi, and was kind enough to provide with a broken raw Densho I was able to get working. I too miss Kevin's enthousiasm and involvment.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
