Today's journal pen is a Jinhao 86 Purple with a fine nib and Van Dieman's Sweet Fig.

Osprey Madison with Zebra-G nib (another one that's good for "smearing" with the back of the nib)

Monday night it was my M600 Black Tortoise and last night the Red Tortoise. And the 140 both nights, too.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Ironic really.

I’ve only seen the film, but the last thing that I’d expect the Wicked Witch to turn out to be is very wet…

Oh, I think if I'd ordered the pen with the MF nib and gotten the music nib for the Loch Ness Monster pen I'd have been happier in the long run.

And of course, purple (which isn't mentioned as a regional color in the original novel, just in the sequels) is connected to the area in the northern section of Oz -- ruled over by a GOOD witch (as is Glinda, who rules over the south part).

Okay, I give up.

What makes it "not fair"?

The person I got it from sent me a sample of Smoky Quartz which will provide my next fill.

While I'm not generally one of the people that goes "matchy matchy" with pen barrels and inks, I don't see anything either fair or unfair about it.

Today's journal pen does match its ink. So there! It's a smooth, wet, fine nibbed Jinhao 992 filled with the pigment ink Pilot Tsuwairo Black.

It arrived yesterday, along with a pack of five fude nibs which unfortunately don't fit. Can someone point me to a listing for nibs that will fit? Or the correct wording so I can search it myself? Pretty please. Thankyou.

True confessions.  I used my Onoto Magna BUT  to my utter shame I also used a 0.7mm Pentel Energel gel pen to draft a contractual addendum to a legal document.

In my defence the use of a gel pen was needed because the legal profession is too cheap to use decent paper.

I used a few different pens today: Parker 25 with Quink Permanent Blue, Charcoal Lamy clone with teal ink, Moonman Penguin hooded nib with Diamine Autumn Oak, MUJI aluminum with Herbin Rouge Caroubier, and Sheaffer Fashion II matte green with Skrip Blue. Oh, and an unknown MV ground point no 12 dip nib- some sort of Falcon stub with a CX shimmer orange ink.

Top 5 of 23 currently inked pens:

Namiki Origami Tradition maki-e Penguin F, Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku

Sailor X Sakazaki Penguin Pro Gear Slim MF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Lamy 2000 EF, Diamine Purple Bow

Platinum Hibiscus SF short-long, Platinum Green

Indigo Bronze TWSBI Eco 1.1 Stub, De Atramentis Columbia Blue-Copper

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
