To be honest I had someone earlier post on my 'You have 30 seconds to decide on only one pen thread' and a guy said he would take his granddads old pen, as although it wasn't his best writer,  using it reminded him of his granddad. I had never even considered my Sonnet, I hadn't even considered it part of my collection.  The Sonnet is already out, it's being inked tomorrow.

How exciting- I hope it’s like meeting up with an good friend who you haven’t seen in years!

Australia’s fauna is so cool, even the venomous ones! Do you get any cool parrots around your house?

Yes, lots of parrots cos we live out in the country and have put in many many birdbaths - which they appreciate in this crazy hot dry place. There's one just outside the window next to my reading chair where I'm sitting. I can watch them, but they can't see me.

@AmandaW yikes, I read about that snake. It was at first sounding not so bad for humans. Then I saw it could damage kidneys.  I hope the snake leaves your land soon.

They're unlikely to leave and I'm not able to do anything to get rid of them.

I've had two scary encounters with them in the past few months - and can't do much to avoid it when weeding and pruning - both required by fire prep rules - have to be done. And by hand is the only reasonable way. I was never afraid of the garden when it was just bees, wasps and man-eating roses, but I am now.

Will work for pens...

That’s so cool! I bet they love your yard! My little pet flock is all cockatiels. They’re so smart and friendly. I would love to see them and the big cockies, king parrots, and rosellas in the wild.

Fair do's,  we all use our pens differently. (I could manage quite easily with only one pen for a month and often do) Fill the pen with the ink you think 'fits'.  Keep the pen close and use the pen as and  when it fits the situation / circumstances.

Of course at the moment I'm in the process of trying to finish running through pens before the Baltimore-Washington show, and getting them flushed out (I'm hoping to get several pens checked out and repaired, so expect that some of those will get inked up over the weekend -- even if just to test them out.

I love seeing your native parrots @AmandaW So colourful and eye-catching when they flock together!

Ours don't usually come this far down from the mountains but the: Kea is one of my favourite NZ birds.

They can be very destructive though and can rip pieces of rubber windscreen linings or plastic fittings to shreds given half a chance!

On a stop-over during any journey through the Southern Alps you have to be careful where you park and what you leave unattended!

Today's rotation has been an old Lamy Ratio that someone gave me a couple of weeks ago because they were going to throw it away. In trying to straighten out the oddly bent (sort of wavy?) nib, the tip of one of the tines snapped right off at the base of the tipping material. So I figured, what better time than now to learn how to grind a stub... 😁 I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, actually. Not bad for my first time!

Decided to pull out my Ebonite Konrad and fill it with Heart of Darkness. It's been a long time since using this pen.

I love keas! That’s what I’m trying to say! I love Tux as well, despite knowing nothing about Linux (lifelong Apple user by circumstance and very low tech) except that it makes some computers run. I used to go to the Powell’s Technical Bookstore with my husband way back when and they had a Tux stuffie display item by the Linux books that I wanted so bad!

I’m also low key envious that you live near penguins.

Today’s pen is the Wing Sung 699 that is still inked with Ama-Iro.

Your post made my heart happy @Penguincollector😄

Well.. now we know what to get you for Christmas/birthday! (although delivery might be a minor problem)!🤔

I could have said the same re: Lifelong Apple user.. until I 'derailed' maybe 5 years ago. I chose that term because it did feel like crashing off the rails and being able to drive wherever my heart desired instead of back and forth between stations! Like a beach buggy in a desert (or a Penguin in open Antarctic Oceans)

Even though I'm a grown man but would be thrilled if someone offered me a 'Tux' stuffie!

I discovered this online the other day...and..well..!

1776544292_garygoose.png.365d9bd5d586352cfbc27025b4f93e45.png

Because my first name is g*** and my Grandparents Surname was Greygoose! I'm not kidding! I couldn't believe it!

I may be destined to have a companion stuffie in my life yet!

A 'Kea' stuffie would be amazing. Perhaps I see a gap in the market because I am also a craft/artist.😃

I have bumped into both seals and penguins on my beach walks. Seals are the scariest! But to be honest we both usually startle each other!

Been nice chatting @Penguincollector

Today I'm using my newly restored vintage, Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 with Edelstein Tanzanite ink and a vintage, Swan 'Snakeskin' pattern self-filler with Van Dieman's, "Tiger Snake" ink.

Plus two Kaweco Sports that never leave my writing desk.

g*** goose Tom 😀

As if I've just landed, I live my life with 'a beginners mind'! To almost everything!🤔

I did not know about this goose game!

Where have I been all my life?

It’s called the Untitled Goose Game and it’s about a goose who gets into all sorts of hijinks in an English village. You can find it on a ton of platforms now. You can message me if you need more information (Sorry for derailing the thread, folks- back to pens).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
