The broken pen was in a drawer for years, the nib was on another Pen.  I finally sprung for a new barrel.  It's so annoying, it's opaque.  I keep checking my ink supply and.... nothing!!!!

😔

Did you keep the old barrel & grip-section?

I believe that there are repair professionals who can fix it for you. E.g. Ron Z of this parish.

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

Broke my rule of having 7 or less pens inked...in I want to use up inks. 4 Krishna inks just came in from India.

A couple of Pelikan 200 B's (inks too wet for B), A '90 Briar Diplomat M, and a Geha 725 F with Indian inks. Two had sheen and a slight touch of shading...was supposed to be a shading sheen monsters, two that should have sheen had none...nore shading.

Dug out an old cartridge of Parker Penmann Sapphire, nice blue, no sheen. Hadn't found any the last times I used one of the cartridges. P-75 M.

Perhaps I shouldn't have filled that cartridge up with water to near top, but it was less than half filled. Same with previous uses. No sheen.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

I did keep the broken parts but I didn't trust a repair.   But after dealing with this opaque barrel I might be changing my mind. 🙂

What am I writing with today....

Today's pen

Jinhao X159, #8 nib, unexpectedly fantastic pen.

Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue

Kokuyo paper

Didn't need any tuning.  There was dried blue ink in the feed, Jinhao is dip testing...

Leonardo, are you listening?

Today it's been the black Parker Vacumatic Junior (I think), EF nib, that I got repaired recently at the Ohio Pen Show, with Waterman Mysterious Blue.

And the Berol Turquoise lead holder, 2H lead, working out the design for the topper for the marchpane I'm making for tomorrow night's Pelikan Hub here in da Burgh (tried to work up the design from the original company logo, from off a link on the Pelikan Perch, but I fear it's going to be too detailed to make in gum paste....  So the most recent-ish logo, with the single chick in the nest, is going to have to do.

And then the pencil sketch will get inked over with a Uniball rollerball (yeah, I know -- a rollerball; but too many years of inking heraldic art with them, and old habits die hard, especially after weaning people off using the brand that smudged if you looked at them crosswise at Pennsic in Heralds Point...🤷‍♀️).

That one got away with me this morning. Now I can't watch videos until my eyes stop tearing, darn you!  😂

I brought my Pelikan M800 to the Hub to meet up with her peers today. She’s one of my longtime companions.Today I had the pleasure of trying  2 M1000s, a green binde with a XF nib, and a Maki-e Autumn Leaves. I also tried a Pilot Plumix and really liked it.

Top 5 of 23 currently inked pens:

Namiki Origami Tradition maki-e Penguin F, Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku

Sailor X Sakazaki Penguin Pro Gear Slim MF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Lamy 2000 EF, Diamine Purple Bow

Platinum Hibiscus SF short-long, Platinum Green

Indigo Bronze TWSBI Eco 1.1 Stub, De Atramentis Columbia Blue-Copper

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
