What pen(s) are you using today?

@Vintage_BEYes! The Pelican school pens are fantastic, they have a more ball-shaped tip so are more tolerant of a variety of angles. In the Pelikano Junior pens this feature is even more pronounced.  Lamy makes a "K" for Kugel nib that is similar.

We keep a Pelikano Junior pen that I've converted to an eye-dropper on the kitchen table and use it daily for the crossword, lists, etc.

I had a Pelikano that I bought at a pen show a few years ago for five bucks.  The nib was a nail, but an amazingly smooth nail.  Sadly, a while back the pen broke -- snapped right at the connection between the ink window and the rest of the barrel.  I keep hoping against hope that there is some way for me to salvage the nib and feed and put them onto another pen, because it was a GREAT writer....

Today for me it was the Dusty Rose Laidtone Duovac, F (?) nib, with vintage Quink Microfilm Black.

I gave away some of my Pelikanos that had broken caps, but I gave them to someone who was making pens. I hope he uses them to make cool new pens because those nibs are awesome.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Today I used a Noodler's Ahab with Noodler's Manjiro Nakahama and my Opus 88 Koloro green and orange with Noodler's Army Green. Oh, and a Noodler's Charlie with Noodler's 1984 for some notes.

I wrote today's journal entry with a coral Pilot pocket pen filled with Van Dieman's Tassie Salmon.

I reached another milestone. My first Pelikan M800 Souveran arrived yesterday. Although I write with loose and fluid hand I had to pry apart my fingers at 2am this morning... or sleep with it!!

Also arrived my 1969 edition, ( #859 of 1500), travel notes by Anthony Trollope.

I'm quite a fan of Tassie Salmon as well Amanda. Much better suited to your beautiful coral Pilot P pen than my red M800 though.

Perhaps I'll try Edelstein Garnet instead. What do you think?

I have yet to try Edelstein Garnet because I thought it may be too saturated / intense for my taste. I don't mind being corrected on that. I do think @Misfitis a fan.

Your Pelikan M800 is indeed a looker. And the book.

Will work for pens...

Thanks Amanda.

Trollope (Mr and Mrs) spent time in New South Wales where son, Frederic and family, were farming. I'm sure they did a great deal of exploring while in Aus.

They found themselves in the thick of a cold, wet winter in New Zealand and spent much of their journey in the mud! To read quaint local travel stories of the great Victorian novelist, particularly since I've read so many his books, is quite a treat.

I'm currently reading the final book of "The Pallisers" series.

I have a bottle of Lamy Topaz and I find that quite intense and saturated. I really don't know my inks well though.

Cheers, P.I.T

I have a bottle of this ink. I like it, but then it was my Dad’s birthstone.  If you’d like, I can post a photo of the ink.

I used a dark brown Pilot Prera, M calligraphy nib, filled from a sample of Iroshizuku Ina-Ho.  Also used a Monteverde Mountains of the World Fuji, 1.1mm stub nib, filled from a sample of Kobe #35 Mount Suwa Leaf Green.  And I use a Monteverde Mountains of the World Everest, with a 1.1mm stub nib, filled from a sample of Kobe #77 Himalayan Blue which is an ink I think I’d like a bottle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
