Does anybody know places from which micromesh can be bought for reasonable price? I have searched online in the usual locations but it is either not available or it is being sold for ludicrous prices.

You can check hardware stores for it.

 

Or can ask Indian pen-sellers too if they have any. Lotus pens used to give them for free with their pens a few years ago for smoothening out the nibs.

 

Nisha Singhi from Vazir fountain pens used to sell them in different grit sizes. She can perhaps even guide you in using them. You can whatsapp her on 9820765530.

Renowned nibmeister Mr. Yusuf Mansoor has said in multiple occasions (2 that I've seen on youtube), that he uses 2500 grit sandpaper to start and then polish it off with 7000 grit sandpaper. I have a set of 2000 to 10000 grit sandpaper that I payed way too much than I admit I have and I normally use the 7000, 8000 and 10000 grits for things like polishing, removing baby's bottom etc. 

I've seen an amazon listing that is selling a set of 4 sandpapers of grits 3000, 5000, 7000 and 10000 for around 750-900 rupees. I guess that may be worth a shot. It's a 9 inch x 11 inch sheet so it'll last you for a long time.

Admittedly, for a less expensive option, try using those 4 step or 6 step nail buffers that you get for under 300 rupees like this one as they also use a kind of abrasive paper similar to micromesh or sandpaper

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
