I'm going to guess Sailor Manyo Kakitsubata blue or Noodler's Polar Purple none of which I have but it would be smashing in a Lamy Candy Violet Safari

Update: apparently Noodler's does have a Periwinkle that is also similar

Oh, I'm gonna have to dig out my bottle of Brexit now.  I'm also thinking of a sample I picked up a while back but haven't yet tried -- Pennonia Tihanyi Lila (ironically in the same bag as my sample of RO Sydney Lavender, which I also haven't tried, but which looks a little darker in the sample vial that the Tihanyi Lila).  I had seen the story about the Pantone Color of the Year earlier today on the noon news, and was thinking it was a nice color.

Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend (good thing I just flushed a number of pens out recently...).

Herbin Bleu Myosotis?

Eclat de Saphir is more likely closer, but perhaps still not purplish enough...

possibly Violette Pensée, but perhaps too purplish...

Hmm, to my eye Eclat is more blue than Myosotis.

I do agree that Violette Pensée is too purple.

I think I will stick with Bleu Myosotis, which I actually see as more violet than blue, as a good match. :)

I looked at my Myosotis more carefully, in terms of colour hue you may be right it's closer that the other two I mentioned, possibly not as dark?

Noodler's had a periwinkle color that was right on target. Now I'll have to find it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

My elderly bottle of Private Reserve Tanzanite looks quite similar.

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That's why it's called the present

Probably because it's a quiet and rather soothing looking color....

How does that rather uninspiring colour get to be 'color of the year'?

... because 2022 may become uninspiring? ;)

Ok, no, I hope not!

I looked at the Pantone homepage and took the screen representation of the color for conversion into RGB:

https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2022-palette-exploration

it resulted in: R 104, G: 105, B: 170 (hex #6869aa).

With this code I searched at ink swatch: https://inkswatch.com/choice.html?hexColorChoice=6869aa

While some of the results have purple hue (and seem not to fit well), inks like Akkerman #02 Residentie Blauw, Laban Blue, Waldman Blue and Burmingham Justice Blue look like good fits (all by screen appearance from scans).

However, I think Rohrer & Klingner Isatis (already mentioned, above) and even Montblanc Midnight Blue (new edition) in dry or EF writing pens can be good fits as well.

One life!

That ink fades to grey.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
