Time To Put Bad Faith Sellers On Stage: A "easy seller" on Etsy ( Edited to comply with rules)

We all take a certain degree of risk when buying from overseas and 99% of the time those transactions are not an issue. If I purchase a pen and do not like it due to manufacturing defects, (Lanbitou 3088) or I just find I personally do not like the pen it is not the fault of the seller. The bs comes in when a storefront advertises certain models, nibs, colors, etc and then after the fact you get that age old horse$*** email about delays, the item being unavailable, or whatever canned excuse for overselling. This happens for two reasons.  Price fishing on the part of the merchant to find out the demand or in the case of this item on Etsy from (one of the only sellers on there currentlyselling the A1), overselling a listed item and then trying to substitute it for something else after the fact.

I purchased the Majohn A1 when it was first listed so having Esybuy email me over 8 days later saying they would only have the advertised box next Monday is false advertising at best. The package was also conveniently already in transit by the time I started getting these emails. Why are you selling an an item and then substituting it before you have said item? This gives me pause about the pens I ordered but I'll wait for them to arrive to pass further judgement.

The point of the rant is most sellers on Ebay, Etsy, and Aliexpress give great service. I do think it is appropriate to call out the storefronts that pull these schemes so that others can avoid them in the future. Sending a stupid gift, the Hongdian black forrest I have no use for, is not a substitute for false advertising. I asked for the empty cartridges that go in the pen as a substitute for the lie and of course they do not have them.

If the sellers do not send what you asked for post them. Reasonably expected QC issues or subjective dissatisfaction with the pen are on the buyer. This is just deceit. Needless to say I will be sticking with Bobby Pens and the Majohn flagship moving forward. Everyone cannot have the class of a Beini Zheng (PenBBS] clearly.

The brand doesn't seem to matter. The relevant factors seems to be:

  • Newly released models
  • One nib size or colour produced in a vast quantity and widely distributed while other nib sizes or colours are in very limited supply or totally sold-out after a few hours.

Dropshipping might also be a contributor to this phenomenon.

I agree and I double down on the seller knowing their inventory.  Bobby amd Beini somehow never have this happen. I know I am speaking about the upper echelon of sellers but the point is do not advertise what you do not have to sell. Some might be wondering why all the fuss about a box but it is the character that causes you pause about the contents of the box. If someone is willing to be dishonest about something as trivial as the box you worry.I bought 4 from Esybuy and 8 from the flagship store. I will avoid speculation because the Bilibili reviews have not mentioned defective models in the stream but for one reviewer getting a leaky nib. If the Esybuy models are defective you can expect a full display of their "glory" along with the Etsy complaint.

I went through the same mess with PENBBS when I ordered my first pen from the direct seller on Etsy (Penbbs store/Beini).
They refused to take the pen back and send the one that I paid for and wanted.
I stopped doing business with them after that and only bought Penbbs pens used.
Nowadays i'm completely finished with their brand and will not buy another.
Ever.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
