Upgrades 28-11-2021

Dearest Members and Visitors of the Fountain Pen Nuthouse,

Today we concluded a major upgrade to the main forums software, database, specific server based software, and upgrades to 64 add-ons.

We found during testing in the past 3 1/2 weeks, that some of the add-ons would require us to setup some of the content views anew. If therefore messages and posts do not look entirely as you'd expect, it will be caused by these changes we have to make. There was not enough time to do them all during the upgrade, and we will try and finish those over the next week, and hopefully sooner if we can.

Anyway, in case you do find there are some problems with storing any images, saving a post, viewing anything here, please let us know in the Community Feedback forum, to which you have access as a registered, signed-in member. We will monitor the forum, and try answering any questions or problems as fast as humanly possible.

Thank you very much in advance!

Warm regards,

on behalf of The FPN Moderator and Admin Team,

Wim

P.S.:

For those of you wondering, I have been ill for the last 6 months or so, which is why I have not been around in public view. No, it was not COVID, but  it is what it is. I managed to keep the site running, and perform the regulatory stuff, but more than that I could not manage, until the beginning of this month. Regardless, I am back, be it at a normal pace rather than my old crazy pace :).

This was my fear.  So glad you're back.  Please take care of yourself, even if it means slower responses to FPN issues!

Good to have you back @wim  Hopefully you have seen the many posts coming from members who were worried about you!

Please continue to improve and get fully better.

I was actually relieved to see the "Down for Maintenance" screen.

 Right?  It was cause to celebrate (in my mind, anyway).

Welcome back @wimg! As I wrote in several posts, I would be more than happy to assist with the ongoing classifieds issue.

Very glad to see you back Wim and I'm sure we all hope your health issues are resolving. Your medical absence did make it clear that this site shouldn't be dependent on just one person, would you please consider having an administrative committee?  Thank you.

Thank you for letting us know, and I wish you a full recovery and return to your accustomed strength (but perhaps not your accustomed pace - sometimes it's a good idea to slow down).

This is so good to hear. I was worrying FPN was going away. I'll go switch the auto-renew back on. And photograph today's pen... A little black cloud just floated away. :)

Will work for pens...

@wimg It's delightful to see you're back! I'm glad to hear you're all better now. Please look after yourself and your wellbeing first and foremost!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
