That's "Brown" from the Japanese Line messaging app, which is huge here in Thailand and other SE Asian countries, I think. Is Line a thing in Australia?

Cute pen!

Nope.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Not sure if it counts, because technically my better half received from her less good half this pen, and only the other day.

Pilot Grance - my first. Appears to be the same #5 nib and feed as on the Custom 74 & Custom Heritage 91/92 but with different engraving, of course. The marbled cap and barrel appear to be acrylic with the lighter red being pearlescent. Likely brass under the acrylic. I prefer the Custom 74's thicker grip and CON-70 converter but the Grance is a nice pen and I'll get another if one comes up at a good price.

Also received this molded leather case - I believe it says "Kenobo". Does anyone know anything about it?

If the first letter is the cursive "I", I think it is "池坊", "Ikenobō", "i-ke-no-bou".

I didn't know, but it seems that they are developing various brands.

 Maybe "luxury goods"

There is no Japanese person who doesn't know about the traditional Japanese flower arrangement school.

 Wikipedia link.

Did you know that the tannins used in leather products are highly reactive with metals?

It is okay if you take out the pen frequently and use it, but if you leave the pen in the leather pen case for a long time, the metal parts may corrode.

Thanks for sharing, @Number99, every day a new (and interesting) thing!

Thanks - you might be right. Unfortunately, Google doesn't reveal a pen case or other leather goods with this branding.

Would the same be true of leather watch bands? It's interesting since some of the larger pen companies have (or have had) leather cases - Pilot, Lamy, Parker, and Montblanc come to mind, for instance.

There are many different agents in use for leather tanning and I suppose some must be better than others in regards to metal corrosiveness.

I think there is no problem if it is tannin-free.

However, tannins are a common and inexpensive "tanning agent", so it's best to check or not buy them at the time of purchase.

I hear that a problem occurs on the back side of the leather, and a good pen case is processed by matching the leather so that the back side of the leather does not hit anything.

Perhaps the watch belt has such a finish.

I was left unattended for several years and suffered damage.

Yesterday two items came my way. One was a pen, a Montblanc 344 from a seller in Serbia. The other was a book someone very kindly gave me, the 1992 version of the PFC (Pen Fancier's Club) Pen Guide, complete with suggested values for vintage pens. So 30 years ago, this pen was reputedly worth more than I paid for it a couple of weeks ago.

I make no comment and draw no conclusions. I just find it interesting.

Hurray!  I’m glad your cute bear arrived. Amberlea Davis sent me a sample of Noodler’s Ottoman Rose, which is the ink I put in my cute bear pen.

Ah ha, we chose different bears to put on the clip.

Parker180 basket wave version of the roller ball. The harshness of a refill exploding on an airplane from Okinawa

 It arrived after a trip.

Others are one of the few collections of my fountain pens for viewing.

Don't count the old salaryman pens out! The Pilots and the Platinum are early 1960s and I guess the Sailor is 1950s but I really have no idea. All great nibs with a little flex, though I am not demonstrating that here. Conservative, distinguished, and handsome looking, in their own way.

I actually got the Sailor a few weeks ago but I finally received a needed ink sac for it, so it kind of feels like I just got it today.

(I had to correct model number of the Pilot on the bottom.) EDIT: Oh my, the model number is still wrong! It's a L-100V.

Pilot Super 150L on the left, Pilot L-100V right. Line spacing is 7mm, to give an idea of scale and nib sizes (all pretty small). Sorry for the poor photo!

I know I said I wouldn't get this, if for no other reason that it's a brand I find distasteful, but here we are:

Nooooo! Not another one of you falling for the beguiling calligraphy flex nib! Not sure I will be able to forgive you for waving this around where I can see it, Dill!

Beautiful pen, by the way! Enjoy! Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
