Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Graphite

This is review #146 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was quick and easy.  This is a very green grey.  I have nothing quite like it.  The green component was readily visible as the remains circled the drain. :) The zoom image does a pretty good job of showing the hint of green.  The screen shot doesn't show the green tinge, and is a little dark.  The scan is a bit washed out - the correct ink darkness is between the two.  I think I like this better on cream paper where the green is enhanced ever so slightly.

Errata: "it's" should be "its".

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Not my cup of tea I had a little chuckle when I read branch/ brunch. :D

Oooo, nice ink!  And I do not have this (but have mixed something similar: 'Petrol Fox').  Shading is what I usually look for in most inks.

Magic?  I used to have some, until embittered cynicism overtook me.  😱

Thanks for another great review.   (The wizardy stuff is making me smile.)

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thank you @LizEF - another excellent review.

I like Graphite a lot. It's a regular choice for me in some of my finer nibs - where I find it behaves well and delivers a colour that I'm fond of. It's nice for drawing as well - especially for slightly moody colourwashes.

:) It's different, and yes, very nice shading.

Oh, yes, that would look quite nice, I'm sure!

My first thought was Dandyism, which I was looking at vis' review of yesterday. A reasonable (and much cheaper) alternative, perhaps.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Just looked it up - Bung(u)box for those who don't know.  Ouch!  Expensive.  Looks darker.  Yeah, I'd say try this instead. :)

Thank you @LizEF for the review and for the story!

I bite my nails while waiting for the next paragraph of the story. The current situation at this magical tree loads the air with a lot of arcane energy. I can hear first discharge strokes while ozone smell is all around. :excl:

😄

While ink and colour preferences had significantly changed for me during the last two years, I still can't see the point of a grey ink for writing. However, in drawing, grey is fine.

One life!

👍  this dark grey tone.

:)  It seems quite popular.  And it's a good grey for finer nibs (as well as broader nibs, I'm sure).

Well, grey is not for everyone, and lots of greys aren't that interesting.  I was rather surprised at how much I like greys.  But have no fear, plenty of other people will give greys the love they need - you can stick to brighter colors with no guilt! ;)  (And yes, grey for drawing or washes does seem a very good fit.)

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm.  (That's Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-ho showing through from the other side of the page.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
