LAMY Scala Infinite Orange (pen and ink)

Recommended Posts

Here's my LAMY Scala Infinite Orange, along with a look at the exclusive "Infinite Orange" ink it comes with.
The pen: This is exactly what I think orange pen fans want: a bright, fruity mandarin orange that is neither reddish nor yellowish, but precisely in between. The finish is one of LAMY's now-familiar lacquers (like this year's Studio Black Forest) with a deep-but-subtle metallic shimmer that looks yellow/gold to me, further reinforcing that “orange peel” look. It brings to mind an obnoxiously orange sports car, in the best possible way.
The ink: Surprise! LAMY actually made a limited edition ink, rather than rebadging one of their past oranges! I don't think anyone would have minded if they brought back Copper Orange from 2015 (a gorgeous, rich colour that's near-impossible to find), and I wouldn't have put it past them to rebadge Bronze (2019) or Mango (2020), neither of which I think sold very well. Infinite Orange is the "peachiest" of these oranges, and is approaching a fluorescent highlighter ink in its brightness. Fluorescent colours are hard to photograph, so trust me when I say that in person the swatch on the right has that "does this glow in the dark" pop that none of the others have.

Sweet. Your source?

Some USA retailers have the orange Scala pen/ink set listed as "coming in November" for roughly $300; others have the pen only at about $350.coming soon.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Ordered mine from Stilographica.it in Italy. Appelboom in the Netherlands also just got their tiny shipment, so availability seems to be starting in Europe.

I’m pretty sure it’s only coming in the gift set with the ink.

Congrats on this beautiful orange scala. May I know if there is any limited number engraved on the pen?

Yes, it’s engraved on the opposite side of the clip from the “LAMY” badge visible in my photo.

Hi Sentience,

Thanks for posting. The pen looks really striking in orange lacquer.

I'm a sucker for ink that matches a pen exactly, albeit that I can't see myself using orange ink in the office.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
