Cloud white vs pearl white is going to be interesting lol

I just want the nib units to be released already, I can wait on colorways until after the Chinese New Year.

I can also confirm that you still cannot get ink shipped out, no matter how small. Customs returned my huge order of cartridges and a few of the new pens because I included some of the inked capped cartridges. Annoying. The flagship store is great though, they are just taking the ink bottle out of the box and replacing it with things I do want.

I have been keeping my eye on the Taobao store in hopes of purchasing a few of the colors. Do you have to ask them to remove the ink, or do they automatically do it for orders outside of China?

You have to communicate with them and work it out. The order was large enough to make it worth the effort. I wanted more capped catridges but they may just pull it and ship it if you ask.

I hate having to chase up things like that with Chinese sellers; and it's the principle of it that whatever they say is there as part of the deal must be provided, if it means they have to send a second shipment uneconomically to fill the gap of what was missing.

The pens work great but it is a shame that particular seller would rather hoard items for the inevitable loose accessories resale than do the right thing.

For what it's worth, I agreed not to open a formal dispute to either pursue a partial refund or force the seller's hand, after I complained to him/her on Christmas Eve about the missing accessories and, was promised that they will be sent to me “as soon as they are available”.

This arrived in the post an hour ago:

We have to wait until they release the individual nib units to find out. It is a matter of when, like the cartridge sets and ink, not if.

Thd Pilot nib units are always an option.

Just received mine yesterday. Inked it up and I have been quite happy with it. To me it writes more like a fine with a slight tilt toward a medium. Not an EF - imo.

It will be interesting to "see" how well it holds up with regular use and over time. For now I am satisfied with my purchase.

On Doug Rathbun's Ytube video, he exchanged the nib unit for a real VP gold stub nib (black),

for his Matte Black MaJohn A1.  Now it writes like a real treasure.  A MaJohn A1 Pilot VP

FrankenPilot nib swap.

Gee you're keen! I had the opportunity to get another Majohn A1 from AliExpress just now for US$28 including delivery and 10% tax, was I was looking at the orange one specifically, but ultimately decided to pass because the Pilot Capless nib's fineness is what I like best, and the glossy lacquered metal barrel is what I like least, about the Vanishing Point pens; the Majohn A1 is kinda the worst-of-both-worlds for me. I could probably bring myself to try a matt black clipless A1, just to see whether the pen is more comfortable to hold and use than the clipped version (I have both the Pilot Capless and the Majohn A1 in matt black with clip), but the so-called EF nib in the A1 just doesn't do anything for me.

All mileage will vary. For me it is a great work nib because I am not looking for anything more than quickness and efficiency when note taking with the A1. True my Pilots can provide the same option but at this price point is would hurt a lot less if one or all mysteriously vanished from my desk or were lost.  I am waiting to see what they might do when they release the nib units. The most we can hope for is a medium more  probably but stranger things have happened.

If all else fails I'm going to load some of these up with Pilot broad nibs to make useful index card pens. The matte colorways Pilot has out still beat most of these but I am sure Majohn will continue to just add more colorways and variations long into the future.

I'm actually hoping for a true Fine or Extra Fine that puts down lines of 0.3mm or narrower in normal writing position/use. Zoom, Stub, and Italic nibs are useful for special effects or particular scripts, but I certainly don't intend to use a Capless pen for the rare occasions when I want to produce those special effects on the page.

We always can depend on PenBBS to mainstream nibs of choice.

You are more likely to get your true fine and EF but fingers crossed for some surprises.

The wait is odd so I am hopeful because they already technically have what they have produced and ready for market so maybe the delay is the variety. Either way, if all else fails, Pilot.

If they release a M I would be shocked but I want a stub unit option from them badly as well.

Two more months and I am just going to stick a pilot stub in one of the A1s

Stub nib units not available in the UK.  Fortunately I have a US friend coming this way in July.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
