play/wiggle on CP1 clip normal?

My Lamy CP1's clip has some play: it can be pushed side-to-side (1-2mm) like a pendulum, quite easily, and the entire clip can be slid up-and-down (about 1mm), while the rest of the cap remains in place.

Do other users of the CP1 experience this behavior, or is this a known issue? I've looked for mentions of this on the web and in youtube reviews but to no avail. Here is a photo that hopefully illustrates what I mean:

This quirk doesn't stop me from absolutely loving and enjoy writing with this pen, though. I also rarely clip pens to things. It's just... eek... why? It's my first Lamy, bought two days ago in a Bibelot store. Thanks for reading!

I had four Lamy cp1 pens (three in black, and one with platinum finish), and I don't recall any such looseness in their clips. The black one I'm using now certainly doesn't move up and down like that.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I have two and mine do.  It's not much and doesn't really bother me.  The hole for the clip is a tiny bit larger than the clip itself, which gives it the slop it needs to move a bit.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. So in our sample population, 3 are loose and 4 are not. That suggests that it is a common issue but not by design. I guess it doesn't bother me all that much either, but the behavior just doesn't seem consistent with the price or the decades-long production history.

I've sent a note to Lamy asking if there's anything the user can do to mitigate the looseness, and I'll post here if they provide useful information, in case it helps anyone else.

I have two Al-Stars: loose clips.

I have two L2K's -- one stainless steel, one Makrolon: loose clips.

Can't recall on my Aion...

I'd say this is something Lamy designs to be "within tolerance" and the pens with loose clips are within tolerance.

😕 I can see how making it too tight would mess with the clip's functionality. In any case, the clip feels really sturdy by itself, so it's hard to complain.

Still no reply from Lamy, and I've also since seen quite a few mentions of this happening on the 2K's. But unlike the CP1, the 2K's clip portion can apparently be disassembled.

clip moves

I see, Lamy must not consider this to be a problem. I wish the clip was at least easily removable.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
