Hola from Mexico! :)

Hola everyone! Lucy here :)

It feels exciting but also nerve wrecking to write a post in the famous FPN!
So how or where do I start... I'm Lucy, I live in Mexico, and I love fountain pens!

I've had some awareness of fountain pens for a few years, but it wasn't until a year or so ago that I took the plunge and went far down the rabbit hole (thanks YT).
Writing feels part of the human experience, maybe not from the origins of our kind... but somehow deeply rooted in some of us.
And nothing (to my knowledge) is more pleasurable in the writing experience than fountain pens and ink!
I love writing, since I was in school you could bet I was taking a whole bunch of notes. I was there for it. And in Mexico you use, for the most part, black ink.
Now, I know there are some lovely black inks and black ink lovers out there, don't get me wrong, but I just adore colour. Colour yes, in the British spelling, cause somehow that feels more grandiose, lol. It can be argued black is a colour, depending on your colour theory, it's just black and I have had such a long relationship that we need some much needed freshness from the whole gamma of the colour spectrum.
So, to have the vast ginormous numerable combinations (I'm not going to say infinite cause I'm into math, and we are very serious about infinites) of existing inks and all the mixing possibilities, it simply feels like heaven.
Add paper to get a perfect trifecta in the writing experience and you have endless hours of fun, mystery, discovery, and entertainment.

It's quite exhilarating to browse a little in the forum and find that there are couple members here from Mexico as well!
Somehow knowing people relatively close to you have the same interest makes life so much more reassuring and  enjoyable.

I'm happy as a clam to post here and connect with people who are also passionate about fountain pens!

Wishing everyone the best,
Lucy

Welcome paisana!

When I was in Mexico , I think only people could afford a Fountain Pen was the PEMEX people. I do not know how things are today but I am glad that you are able to get the pens, paper and ink that brings you joy.

Saludos!

Javier

Show us your favorite ink and fountain pen when you get the chance. We all love photographs here. Lucy, welcome.

This vintage Parker 51 circa 1950/60's is my current daily writer. The Parker was found at a neighborhood yard sale for US $5. It's so reliable and bullet proof I can't believe it.

Thanks everyone for the welcome wishes, it brings a warm feeling much needed in these cold days!

I finally was able to decide that my favorite pen + ink combo at the moment is the Pilot E95S with Robert Oster African Gold. It can sometimes feel a tad dry, but with the right paper is perfect, and that ink surprised me so pleasantly from the first drop.

@singlechange that vintage Parker 51 looks neat, and such an amazing find, congrats!

You have successfully entered a rabbit hole, who knows what it'll yield and where it'll lead.

Enjoy the fascinating journey and feel free to ask/share...  thumbup.gif

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
