My earliest Sheaffer pen

I saw that this pen had the raised threads of a sheaffer from the teens, but am excited both that it doesn’t have a clip, which was an option at that time, and that instead of a small pen it’s a good sized 4A.  It needed work as was missing much of the cap lip, and no nib. I think this Conklin Toledo 3 is a worthy replacement as getting a Self filler 4 is not a likely prospect for me…

It does have faded HR but I am very ok with patina showing it’s age and I think it looks good on this one..

That is encouraging to hear Roger, I rarely see them show up myself, do you know of possible source other than ebay?

I'm sure you have the earlier self fillers with the oval imprint mark, it is cool to have a pen from the early years of the Sheaffer co.

Absolutely, a real gem. I don't own any fountain pens of that era,

seeing yours rekindles my interest in owning a true antique. Cheers.

Good luck you might be surprised to find some early pens, they show up and aren’t sometimes recognized for what they are. Most of mine were not very expensive although I like to “rescue” an old often broken or incomplete pen…so I guess not really a collector of perfect examples.  That and using them is fun and the many rabbit holes of historical research available is amazing… the history becomes more real to hold and write with a pen of 100 or even 120 year old pen and wonder who might of used it before.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
