Here is the mighty No. 50 size Namiki Emperor in the 2021 Limited Edition Coral maki-e. Words cannot express the amazingly superlative incredibleness of this pen. I have some pretty awesome macros I can share in a followup post if anybody is interested.

Congratulations!  That pen looks even more superb in your photo than it did in other shots I've seen online.

Luckily, the Emperor is too big for me.  I'm trying to break through the psychological barrier of spending the amount needed for a Yukari Royale Maki-e, without success so far.  I'll just come back to ogle this one regularly, and would certainly love to see some macro shots.

OMG!! That is a gorgeous pen - I was waiting to finally get a proper picture, thanks for sharing.

I would be very interested in the macro photos!

And btw, you rock! Love to see the pen inked

Cheers,

Lars

Fabulous! It looks better in your photo than on the namiki site. I nearly got my hands on one to review from a friend but I'm moving country and will miss it by just a week. I'm not sure my family would be very sympathetic to me delaying a huge move just to review a pen.

Enjoy your brilliant pen and please post the detail shots!

Possibly the most beautiful pen I have ever seen.  I am now so very much looking forward to seeing more of your pictures and hopefully to seeing one in person at some point.  Congratulations on having such a fine work of art!

Thank you. Congratulations to you as well.

Regarding the ink bottle, seems to be the case with all LE pens. Some special ones like 95th anniversary ink bottle was in a different shape.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
