Any tricks for stopping a vintage 400 nib from burping ink

I have a couple of vintage 400 nib units that I love, but they have a tendency to burp ink into the cap creating quite a messing when taking the cap off. I'm pretty certain it's the old ebonite feeds causing this as I have tried them in several restored 400NNs and several modern 200s and 400s all with the same results.

 

I'm wondering if there is a simple trick to prevent this, or if I should go ahead with my plan B and buy a couple modern nib units and swap the old nibs into the new feeds and collars?

check the collar if there's a crack. that's usually a common occurrence in my vintage 400's.

In I have no problems with my '50-54 400s four and a  (500) or my 400nn.

Defiantly leads thoughts to cracked collar(s).

In I've been lucky with my Plastic Gasket 1.0 Pelikans. '38-54 no problem and...in @ '55 Plastic Gasket 2.0 came in.

 

 

***A worry a day, Keeps Doctors busy or if lucky a repairman.
