The answers are "Yes", and "more than you might think".  The bottle didn't shatter, but the bottom sheered off, and it's AMAZING how far little shards of glass can travel....  Plus, I was trying to keep one of the cats out of the bathroom (who was very interesting in the stronge thing "Mommy" was doing...."

I didn't want to explain to the vet why the cat at indigo blue ink with tiny shards of glass in the cat's paws (plus was afraid that there would be bloody and KTC colored paw prints all over the upstairs hallway and ELSEWHERE... :headsmack:).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you for the link.  Those are some disappointing inks.

No.  I was too busy cleaning up the mess and trying to keep the cats from investigating the accident -- plus I was trying to do it all in a rush because I was supposed to be meeting people for dinner that night....

Especially given the ones being "retired"!

Well I don't see the point. I'm pretty sensitive to colour - years of painting has that nailed down - and I'm looking at Hana-Ikada and Kosumosu side-by-side and wondering why they deleted Ina-ho for this...

Will work for pens...

I find the choices somewhat weird:

  • tsukushi is more interesting than yama-guri, as the former has more character than the plain dark brown nature of the latter;
  • hotaru-bi seems to be close to chiku-rin
  • hana-ikada seems to be close to the other difficult reds/pinks that are tsutsuji, momiji and kosumo
  • still missing is a strong, dark(er), dominant red (compare e.g. to Shikiori's yodaki and okuyama)

Perhaps only exchanging a blue (tsuyu-kusa) for a teal (sui-gyoku) might bring balance in the number of offerings in both color shades.

Anyway, if I run out in the years to come, I am sure that I will find an acceptable match somewhere...it is not that we do not have enough choice...

I disagree with the first comment, I really like Yama guri and it’s more complex than a straight brown to me, I like it’s slightly khaki leanings.

I totally agree in respect of the red and I’m amazed they have overlooked that void when reviewing the range.

personally I’m quite apathetic by those being removed and those added, I love the inks that I have from the Iroshizuku offering but haven’t been tempted beyond the seven or eight that I already have.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
