The Parker Wood Pen

Hi,

I am trying to get a lay of the land of a relatively recent pen that I haven’t seen any examples of. not sure if anyone has seen an example of one of these pens sell, but I am trying to figure out what the prices might be. So few examples of sales I can see online that it’s tough to know. If anyone out there has bought one, please help me out. I have my thoughts but I’m curious what your opinions might be, unbiased by my own.

the pen is a rather rare Parker that was made in the 80s I believe in a variety of different wooden finishes. But information is really scarce so any help would be more than welcomed.

to be clear, I am neither buying nor selling, I don’t have one to sell nor do I know of one to buy. As I learn about the various parker models over the years, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of where they kind of fall on the ladder of price and scarcity. This wood pen model is one of the exceptions and I’m just trying to get an idea of where it might fall.

like I said, anything you know would be more than I know and any help would be great.

thanks

Yeah I’m familiar with this website. This seems to be the only source of info though. Kinda crazy how little is out there

The Parker wood pens were expensive when they were available in the 80's.I think they were made in Germany. I wanted to buy one but they were  out of my financial possibilities. I don't remember the exact amount ,but if you can find some pen store catalogs of those years you can see the price they had.

I seem to recall a complete set of the pens showing up from a retired Parker rep and it making its way to a collector.

Perhaps Tsachi and/or Graham have sets.

They were made in Germany and Parker US shut it down.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

Tsachi has a full set, not sure about Graham.

I was lucky enough to pick one up some years ago.

There's one for sale here,   Wood pen

and there is currently one on ebay (from Japan), for an exorbitant amount of money.

Paul.

I found the one on eBay. You aren’t kidding about the price. The crazy part is that without more prices it’s tough to know just how optimistic that seller is. Based on the fact that they are also asking $4500 for a gold web Vac, I’m assuming it’s equally high. But I didn’t realize there was one at Vintage pens. I’ll have to reach out and inquire.

thanks

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
