Is this a Pelikan deskset

Some time ago I found this black deskset with a Pelikan pen (at least the nib is marked Pelikan and the barrel is a black striated one similar to the one of a Pelikan 400). The deskset has no brand on it, do you think that is from Pelikan (maybe from the Milan factory)?

That is a nice find! The 400S desk pens are not common and the desk bases are even more scarce. Nice also to see it combined with the iconic Ace of Spades album!

The shape of the desk base with the central and longitudinal indention as well as the shape of the sockets all look like a genuine Pelikan desk base. The sockets are normally marked "Pelikan" near the open end of the socket.

Is your base glass or marble? A similar desk base but in transparent glass is shown near the bottom of this page:

as an addendum:

I have the single socket version of the base with original paperwork in Italian, indeed suggesting that these desk bases came from the Milano factory.

Thank you Joss, now that you said me where to look I found Pelikan written on the black socket. The deskset is made in glass.

Now I have to found another deskpen to complete the set.

Beautiful, your pen has a thread for the cap, or the cap is snap fit?

The double pen holder is Pelikan from @ 1990 + - a poster over in Geek said. The 'gold plated' top of the 4001  Royal Blue inkwell bottle now has the remains of my Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Green shading ink in it.

When after 6 months of looking for my Grail pen a Soennecken 111 or even a 222 herringbone, the money burnt a hole in my pocket.

I got this pen stand, a tortoise 500, a tortoise  '54 transition a 400, a marbled green 381 and a similar marbled green Celebry.

The pen in it is a '93 Green Hunter Toledo and I think an '50's Artus Bilatt(Lamy sub-brand with regular flex nibs).

Yes, the pen has threads like a standard Pelikan 400. This is unexpected but this is how I received this set. It is impossible to rule out whether it came like this from the factory but the general consensus is that the 400 desk pen did not have barrel threads (like your version).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
