Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: KWZ Grey Plum

This is review #132 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: I can notice a smell from this, but since my nose doesn't function properly, I couldn't tell you what it smells like, just that I notice it, and it's sorta sweet, maybe.

The screenshot doesn't show the color quite well enough - I see a *little* more color, but actually gives a good overall impression of what I see from a distance as far as how dark the ink is.  The scan might have better color.  This purple is to the red side.  The zoom sort of shows that, but not really - color was just too dark for anything to pick up.

Cleaning was quick and easy.  There was a tinge of green in the converter and the sink as I was cleaning.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Thank you - yet another useful review for me since this ink is another one that I was interested in!

The zoomed photo does seem to give the impression of 'plum' to me but do you think it also has a grey look? My impression is that Scabiosa in a wet pen has a similar look to me so I'm getting less interested in this one (I am just as happy to take an ink off my want list as I am to put one on - sometimes even happier ...).

Thanks as always @LizEF another very interesting and useful review.

This was an ink that wasn't really on my radar (I don't know why, but I've never really got into KWZ inks), and it certainly isn't now! Even if I really liked the look of it, the dry time would be a dealbreaker for me. So I'm safe again :)

Now, this is the sort of what-is-it color that intrigues me.  But the Forever dry time rules it out.

Love your quote; I had already written about the absolute horrors of camping out.  🤣

Thanks again for the reviews.   And ooo, evil punching bags?

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Great job, @LizEF

The colour is truly appealing, hence my love of Scabiosa.

Was that the goat that hit poor Makhabest? It's turning into a cliffhanger :D

I have Grey Plum and Scabiosa swatches here in front of me.  Grey Plum is darker and a hair more to the blue side.  Scabiosa is greyer / more muted.  Grey Plum is definitely not bright, but all alone, you wouldn't say it has grey in it - you'd need another color next to it to see that.

:D Yeah, camping looks all nice and peaceful and stuff, but my experience of the reality has not been something I'm anxious to repeat.

Thanks LizEF for this wonderful review. The color is really appealing to my eyes.
My problem with KWZ inks in general is mostly the scent. Its distracting and intrusive when I am writing. And as it was commented here several times, not always they flow well after several days. A pity for me because I love their colors.

I've never had a flow problem with KWZ inks, but all my pens seal well (I quit using them if they don't, as I live in a desert).  But this one definitely has a noticeable scent, and if I can notice it, pretty much anyone can.

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
