Some pics of a push cap Guider purchased maybe a decade back. They made it in several colors and I bought all of them in a fit of fancy. This particular one was the only one that got inked. The stock tubular nib was no good but I found some replacement Hero nib with a fatter point from a shop here. The cap was vented like a sieve which was pretty tough to seal to prevent dryouts. Anyway. I did all that with this one pen. I have inked it up today again as a companion to my Deccan Five Star Super.

Thanks for reminding me of this pen. I've got a black one, it hasn't been inked for years, but not because I didn't like it.

The person who sold it to me called it a Guider P51. I honestly do not remember if the nib needed work, but I am sure it's still the original nib, and when I dipped it just now, it wrote immediately.

I'm going to fill and use it, see if I still like it...

I do remember putting some nail polish over the hole in the cap, to prevent evaporation. The cover is still there.

a fountain pen is physics in action... Proud member of the SuperPinks

Great. You have to seal the inner cap too. If you seal the inner cap you don’t have to bother about the outer steel cap. The inner cap has the clip screw hole and side hole that needs attention. HTH. Enjoy your pen and thanks for reading.

Nice pen. The ring around the section makes it look so similar to Parker 51.

Only in looks. 😊. Inside it’s just a camlin 47 ebonite feeder and a hero nib. An Indian 00 will fit there I think. I have not tried. BTW on a 51 with such a ring, the ring sits slightly proud of the hood and barrel to engage the cap clutch. On a super 21 the ring is flush like on Guider. It has no function. It is only for looks. HTH.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
