Deep Dark Rich Reds

Diamine Red Dragon?

I don’t recall it as being an ink that gives huge shading, and also I remember it as being very free-flowing.
It didn’t bleed for me, but them I have only used it in a Pelikan M205 with a ‘F’ nib, and that was in a Rhodia Webnotebook.

In its favour, its colour is a nice deep-red red, and it doesn’t write with any pink or orange undertones. It reminds me of the colour of Y Ddraig Goch.

Edited for clarity, & for FFEs, comme d’hab.

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

I add black to reds, more or less black depending on the shade of the original red (or my mood that day).

Also, don't forget to check out the RED THREAD - see the signature line below.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My favourite dark reds, like Cult Pens Deep Dark Red, all lean brown. KWZ IG Red #3 is red without leaning brown. Have a look at reviews and see if that floats your boat.

Another vote for Diamine Red Dragon.  It's what I use for Christmas cards.  Richly oxygenated blood red.  No shading with my EEF tips.

I'm heading towards the Red Dragon bandwagon. Monaco and Oxblood are too brown, and many of the others are too bright. I have some bright reds (like Diamine Poppy, for one). I find they are too bright to write much with.

I like Red Dragon.  When you have it in hand, we'd love to see it.

I have an old bottle, so maybe the formula has changed, but mine has a distinct brown color on white paper.

My sample, acquired a few months ago, definitely does not have any sort of brown look. Looks just like a dark red rose to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
