Angel Vine Notebooks - AVOID

Recommended Posts

Saw these notebooks on shopee claiming to be fountain pen friendly. Dropping all the words we love to hear about no bleed through, good dry time, smooth, no feathering... LIES I TELL YOU. large.20210828_151250.jpg.f961b06e7d12c8feced802abe3753e79.jpglarge.20210828_151318.jpg.634772b943b8a633fe363aa48d365237.jpglarge.20210828_151559.jpg.d7ae5b12108c9d61792a30d5c736a429.jpg

Full review on site. So disappointed... Just feels like some random off the shelf notebook. All the test inks turned into ugly blobs and totally sucked the sheen and shading out of all of them.

Paper Performance
(Lower scores mean worse performance)
Bleed-through: 1/5

Show-through:2/5

Feathering: 1/5

Smoothness: 2.5/5

O dear,

i know how annoying this must be …

In my early FP days, i went thru many of such disappointments, then decided to just stop hoping and shop only on Japanese made paper.

Also, after a while, you sort of learn to how to guess with more certainty, whether any given paper is ink friendly or not, under your fingertips.

just use the journal with ballpoint pens … 🙃

Also, my limited experience  with vinyl covers are bad, they don't last, after a decade or more, they harden as they shrink, turn flaky and just crack and crumble. 🤨

Thanks for your comment! This was an online shopping experience due to the local situation so I could not test or see beforehand. And for the covers, tell me about it. 🙄 Deterioration happens twice as fast here due to the hot, humid weather.

I like supporting local products and there is one which was recommended by locals (which I hope to try soon) but this was a huge let down. I'm currently using it as a sketchbook or for random off hand notes. Not gonna waste it!

Thats good.

Try ZEQUENZ 360deg notebooks. Thai product and brand.

They are good.

Paper IIRC is 90gsm, brilliant white.(too glaring at times)

Feature they tout is their glue binding but can be opened and rolled , and whatever 360degree.

I did a review here years ago but pictures all messed up by PBucket 😡

Vinyl covers feel good at first, but after a few years, cracked and flaked and crumbled to the slightest touch.

The binding still holds though 👍

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
