It's ok. I am actually leaning towards the Supreme because it's their flagship model and one I've been thinking of buying for a while. But thanks for the info, I will ask him about it.

Their gold nib was a piece of Indian pen history, they made cheaper gold nib models too like 15, 32, 42 small etc

First Vijayawada Brahmam stopped, then  Ratnam (KV Brahmam and Bros) stopped, then Guider stopped, now Ratnamson has stopped, so the era of handmade gold nib has ended with this.

That's so sad to hear. An art form perhaps permanently lost unless someone picks it up from them. 

 

It's at least good to see a revive in the fountain pens, and also the Indian-made ones, because of this forum and other fountain pen groups.

 

The increase in demand, especially from international customers, has made the Indian pens somewhat expensive though, or at least that's what I feel.

I am not aware of  latest prices of many jumbo pens. No point in justifying why choose one over other.

This is an old Deccan model called the “ FIVE STAR SUPER”. An ebonite ED version of the Parker VS.

@hari317 That's a beautiful pen. Thanks for sharing. I assume you have changed the nib and feed.

 

By seeing some of your old pens I wonder if the India pen-makers today have lost the creative edge they once had. Now almost every Indian ebonite pen looks about the same.

Yes, straight swap with a no 5.5 nib and feed from KW.

Not really. Thanks to Whatsapp, social media etc, they are spending their energy in making and serving what the customers ask. For example the current thinking is, someone told me, that if the trim is CT then the nib must be chrome plated too and they can't understand whay a company put GP nibs on their CT pens. I mean what can you say to that.

Personally it has never bothered me if the nib, trim or clip are of different colours.

I prefer understated colors and design over colourful/flashy ones any day. The simpler and the minimalist the pen looks, the more it appeals to me.
