KWZ to discontinue some of their Iron Gall inks

After seeing some posts about KWZ killing some of their iron gall inks, I emailed them for clarification. This was Agnieszka's response:

Yes, we plan to discontinue some of the iron gall inks. Among the Blues, we will leave IG Blue #1, #5 and IG Blue Black.

We still have a stock of #3 but once we run out if it, we will not manufacture more.

The changes are needed to make the palette more consistent and make a space for completely new inks.

So, if you are a fan of Blue #3, as I am, time to stock up.

Thanks for the heads up.  I really LIKE IG blue #3 and am totally bummed to hear this news, BTW.... :(

Any clue what other colors are getting the axe?  Just in case they are also amongst my "must haves...".

No, I only asked about their blue/blue blacks as they are the inks that I use and consider their specific niche. No other makers really provide that range of IG, from traditional blue black, through shades of blue to turquoise.

Hopefully, they'll put up a more detailed inventory on their website.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I bought Blue IG#3 when I couldn't find a bottle of Platinum Blue-Black (eventually ordered it and had it mailed to me). I like the water-resistance of the PBB, but I don't care for the red sheen. The KWZi BIG#3 is a very pretty dark blue.

In the end, neither is contasty enough for my purposes, so I'm using Pilot Blue.

Hm...maybe I should grab an extra bottle in case my capricious ink fussiness changes....

My inks from 'the land of Po' are the love of my life at the moment. I'm no good at critically analyzing. The heart knows what it wants😍

Pennonia, Pokoltuz and KWZ IG Blue Black and Warsaw Dreaming are my favourite 'Blues' ever. Lashings of them in my writings tonight!

Barbarian!!?🙃

I hope our supplier can send me a spare bottle or two although I tend to hope Silverlifter is right.

The 'niche' range stays.

It's especially "unfortunate" when a maker discontinues an IG ink, because those have so much more of a shelf life than many other inks, IME, especially if one intends to use the inks on a regular basis.

I'm really looking forward to the new colours -- whatever they may be.  Even though IG Blue #3 is one of my favourites, I won't be stock-pilling it because I'd rather try out some new colours.

Thanks for this post. I just bought a bottle a few months ago and I love it. I will buy some more because after all, if I change my mind is easier to sell what I stock up rather than built the DeLorean and travel back in time. Cheers!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
