Pen case big enough for Platinum Izumo

Recommended Posts

I received a Pineider 12 pen case in the post today.

Unfortunately the slots are not big enough to fit my oversized pens - the biggest being my Platinum Izumo.

Has anyone come across a pen case that's big enough to store an Izumo?

Thank you.

Visconti Dreamtouch leather pen case. We have the six- and twelve-pen versions, but I'm sure the two- and three-pen versions are equally as roomy. Our Platinum Izumo Tamenuri pens fit therein just fine, but we don't have, say, the Izumo Tagayasan (which is larger still) to test and say the cases will accommodate all Izumo models.

DiLoro leather two-pen cases also hold our Izumo pens just fine, although we haven't tried putting both our Izumo pens side by side in one such case.

The old Franklin-Christoph penvelope used to easily fit them. The newer iterations unfortunately have a smaller max diameter. They can fit an Izumo…if you’re ok with a snug fit and a bit of pressure to shove it in (I have this one in particular).

I’d rather not, so I bought a Taccia case last week (this one). It fits my Izumo (and slightly larger pens) comfortably. The downside is that it’s not as rigid as the F-C case; it’s only stiff enough to keep its shape against gravity. But if I’m honest, all I really need for my use case (pun intended) is to protect my pens from bumping and jostling against each other in my backpack, which it does. Analogous to softcover vs hardcover notebooks.  For greater capacity,@namrehsnoom recently reviewed the Taccia 8-pen roll here.

And then there’s always the option of commissioning a custom pen case.

I think there are many good options. The Visconti cases have been mentioned. The Pelikan cases work(Barely). Montblanc cases are made to accommodate the 149, I bet. Markario cases, if you can still find them, are huge. Any of the Nock cases work for big pens. Galen Leather makes some cases expressly for oversize pens. The most elegant, IMO is the larger model case made by Atelier Musubi. Those are enough for now, I think. I didn't try every case I have for big pens. I did test all of the above with an Izumo though.

Thank you all for the replies.

In the UK, the Visconti cases are hard to find (not sure if they are out of production of it it is B*****, so it looks like the Pelikan, Nock or MB are options.

I think the Visconti Dreamtouch cases have indeed been discontinued a couple of years ago.

The DiLoro are still in production, and in fact now have a three-pen version, that wasn't available when I bought our fifteen or so two-pen cases (not all at once, but over two years or so).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
