Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age vs Bronze Age?

Recommended Posts

Hi FPN members! I am new to the network and looking for some advice.

Could you tell me which you would choose - the Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age or the Dark Age model and why?

I can only buy one in the next twelve months.

Thanks so much!

I generally prefer contrasting trim color so I prefer the bronze age trim. I am also not so much a fan of the "stealth" look for fountain pens with everything being either very dark or black. That's really the only difference I am aware of, the color of the metal accents. Isn't everything else the same?

Thanks Paul (I’m in SF as well😊). Yes the trim is the only difference between the two models. I kinda like the “stealth look” but also appreciate the Bronze Age. Difficult decision… At least the Magma is off the list, not really a fan.

I also have the Bronze Age.  Why buy a pen where it is difficult to see the metal adornments?  I think the Bronze Age, which is the original model, looks the best.

Your pen, your choice.  Choose the one that pleases you most.

Add lightness and simplicate.

welcome!

Bronze age for me too!

more than one reason

it's the original version and in my opinion the one that looks best and will remain most iconic  (and lucky if you can still have access to it as it's supposed to be discontinued)

the dark material contrasts wonderfully with the bronze, the bronze trim is unusual but not flashy

stealth pens usually have problems with time as the black coating is not as resistant as metal trim, and coated nibs are particularly delicate, and don't look as smart when the coating starts to wear off...

Hey there, and welcome to FPN!  The only opinion that really matters here is yours, since you're the one who's going to be plunking down a sizeable chunk of coin for a premium pen.  But...since you asked...if it were me (and I wish that it were!) I would be going for the Bronze Age Skylight.  I think the window in the Skylight version is a really nice complement to the pen and looks as though it always belonged there.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
