Where are Parkers made...

...today?

Seriously, a friend asked me where are Parker fountain pens currently made?  I confessed that I had no clue, but knew where to find out.  So, Parker aficionados, where are current Parker pens manufactured?

UK plant closed so did the US one. no word on when the one in Canada closed, my guess?: about 30 seconds after the Can/US free trade agreement was signed...

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

😕

The Wiki page says Parker is headquartered in Nantes (France).  One can assume that their primary production facilities are co-located there, and the Silverlifter (above) is correct.

Mid range parkers are made in china. Parker IM, Urban, and maybe some others.

Duofold,

Premier,

Sonnet,

Jotter,

are all made in France.

The pens made in India by Luxor do include jotters and sonnets but they are stamped "I" for country of manufacture.

Parker used to have their factory at the corner of University Avenue and King Street in Toronto. They were closed well before the FTA or subsequent agreements. Likely the late 1950s...

sad.

And while apparently not due to FTA, likely due to the lack of tariffs on US made goods that caused the creation of the factory in the first place. 😕

oh well, at least we still make baby car seats in Ontario... :P https://clekinc.ca (no relation, just a recent customer)

Tariffs are interesting things, and all too often are either imposed or lifted without a true appreciation of both long and short term consequences.

It would be nice to buy a Parker made in Canada, but it is also nice to be able to pick up one, made in France, for half the price!

And at present I have no need for baby seats…

well, the good news is you CAN get a Parker made in Canada

the bad news is it'll HAVE to be vintage

wait... considering the apparently quality of new/current Parker production... maybe that's not actually a bad thing! :P

:)

Vintage is not a problem. The prices are!!!

But I do have a very nice Parker '51' in navy grey from the Toronto factory.

Navy Grey is one of my "still have to get" colours.

😕

I DO have a Navy Grey Demi Special though, and from what I've gathered from Richard Binder's website, the Demi Specials are relatively rare birds... and I'm lucky enough to have two. Navy Grey and Forrest Green (with matching pencil!) :D

oh, and yeah, the prices are a little extreme right now, doesn't help that the Canadian Peso is so worthless.

This is the one I have, next to a regular-sized '51' for comparison.

it is the only Parker pen I use posted.

The one I have is. And just like the old 45s from France, it comes rather plainly packed. You get the pen and a single cartridge. No instructions and nothing special in the box (although the box itself is quite nice).

That's a Dove Grey Demi Vacumatic :)

Navy grey is the greenish greyish colour used on the aero-metrics. (and some rare vacumatics)

I have two cedar blue, one dove grey and one cordovan brown

I just need a black one to complete the set of all 4 colours they came in :)

I don't post. ever. (except a fisher space pen and a kaweco sport) But I can understand why you would on a Demi Vac.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
