Rotring ballpoint pen

This ballpoint pen is probably the thinnest in the world; thinner even than the famous Tombow Zoom. It is the only pen that fits in my small wallet. Along with a calendar, a homemade leporello, a pocket mod, and two or three small index cards, I am fully equipped - office-wise - with it.
Of course, I don't like ballpoint pens and only write with them in emergencies, practically not at all, because so many emergencies don't happen.
But if they did, I would be ready to write immediately.

It is strange that capitalism and its commodity production provides writing utensils in such a multitude that one cannot keep track of them at all, but always serves only a uniform middle and practically never the edges: Such a thin pen is not available at all: Six millimeters in diameter! 125 millimeters long!
If one day I should lose this Rotring, I will not be able to get an adequate replacement, because there is no such thing anymore.
I will then have to insert a naked refill: an aesthetic faux pax and a silent impossibility; degoutant!

There are many people who no longer leave the house without their cell phones, because they feel naked and unprotected without them; and they often carry them around the house from room to room, even taking them to the bathroom.

I feel that way about pens. I always have a pen with me.
Well, that's an exaggeration, not always, but most of the time.

It's not that I'm waiting to write down the license plate number of a fleeing criminal, but I'm waiting for the brilliant thought, the ultimate world knowledge, global enlightenment and heavenly insight, and it would be silly if the Holy Spirit came to visit me and I didn't have a pen with me to record his message.

Probably however the world spirit will communicate itself not at all in tidy grammar, by means of fountain pen, ball-point pen and paper, but completely differently.
That would be fatal. All my ink supplies, all my fountain pens, all my notebooks, all that would then be completely useless and superfluous.
My God, what a fool I am!

Hi Carloa,

I don't see a rOtring on your rOtring. Does it say rOtring on the clip? Did the rOtring fade away? Inquiring minds need to know. :.)

It is almost gone. Only the 'r' is visible. (Don't search google. I've done it before... Nothing ...) This pen should be 40 years old.

I would bet that the Sailor Chalana is thinner. I have the Chalana Set - the fountain pen, which is considered the slimmest fountain pen in the world and which actually writes very well and is reliable; and the ballpoint.

Smart looking and well made.

I'm not a gambler 🤑 but according to Pen Chalet the Chalana FP is 6.4 mm while the ballpen here is 6 mm.

That's the FP. The ballpoint may be slimmer.

I need to pull mine out of storage and see.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
