Dear pen friends,
I hope you are all doing well, I was wondering for my Canadian friends, where do you buy your Visconti pens? what is the cheapest place to buy Visconti in Canada? I want to buy the Orchards in blossoms pen which.  Also, what is your experience with buying pens from the US? is it cheaper or since you have to pay customs its actually more or the same?

Thanks :)

I don't own any Visconti, so I can't help you there.

I do most of my buying (that's not vintage ebay...) from Wonderpens.ca

I have also ordered once from Stylo.ca

both have been good to deal with.

I have ordered from Goulet in the US once and after shipping, I may as well have ordered it here. I would order from them again, but only if it was something that no one in Canada had, like say if I wanted a bottle of Liberty's Elysium. But then you see that shipping bill and go "oh... never mind then..." So it would have to be something I can't get anywhere else, and that I really really want.

That said, the shipment was fine and Goulet was good to deal with in that sense.

Can't remember if we got nailed at the border or not. I suspect on something like a Visconti that is $260USD?

Yeah, you might get nailed at the border. For reference, I once paid 30 bucks in duties on an ebay purchase that cost less than $100 USD. on a 70 year old pen... that had been MADE IN CANADA!!! (it was a Parker "51") thanks a lot CBSA.

Wonderpens are a Visconti dealer, but don't have the pen you want in stock/on the website, but you could always call them and see if they would special order it if you paid a deposit or something.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

I'd recommend House of Fine Writing in Toronto: https://houseoffinewriting.com/. They carry Visconti and usually have a sale going.

For US orders, some  vendors are offering prepaid duties option so you don't have to pay any extra fees at import.  I tried this recently with Pen Chalet, and it worked well.  Shipping charges apply.

Cult pens in the UK also offers the option to prepay HST. If you spend >$120 CAD, shipping is free - they used DHL when I ordered back in May. Prepaying HST also meant that there were no brokerage fees from DHL, which was nice.
