2mm lead holders on the cheap

Recommended Posts

I recently was blessed with a treasure trove of drafting materials, leads, erasers, etc. I've ordered a holder, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I also have several colored pencils from the dollar store. Four  2mm pencils with sharpener included.

Most of my leads should work with the holders (they do, I just checked!)

They're called Color Point pencils by inc.

How cool is that!!

You can find a $1 4-pack of color point 2mm lead holders at DollarTree with colored leads. I bought a bunch and put HB lead in them and gave them to my co-workers. I don't generally  like incremental advance lead holders, but for the price, they're amazing. And the sharpener in the end is really quite good.

Try them and check their hardness grade. If they are H or HB maybe you would not like them so much, or if, for some other reason, you don't love them, I can say that:

I like using Staedtler Mars 3B/4B leads because they are smooth and buttery specially for writing. Not cheap, but one pack of 12 would last for me at least 10 years. Maybe more. The fact is: if drawing is your job, you take money for each draw so spending 10 bucks is not a problem if you use all the leads in a week (impossible however), while if drawing is not your job (like me) a 12 pack would last so long that the price is irrilevant comparing it to some fuel for the car that you can use in a single day. So I prefer to buy high quality ones, once. Lead is for a pencil the equivalent for the ink in a pen.

So if you don't like the leads you have at home, you will find easily a way to enjoy your new lead holder and have fun with it.

Drafting tools are great, designed well and very functional.

If you are looking for more options for affordable 2mm lead holders, I would recommend the Zebra Zensations 2mm pencil (click to advance but no sharpener). Zebra also has a 2mm colored pencil version with matching barrel called Cadoozles. The barrel is a triangular grip so you may or may not like that. They're great for children and adults alike.

Would leads be something that could be listed in the classifieds (if they get it fixed)?

I have a lot of them.

The last time I tried setting up a pif, it didn't work. Maybe I did it wrong somehow.

I will message you separately about the leads. I am interested in buying some depending on the hardness and the price.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
